500 (Classic) Raukstern's 500F -65 rebuild

Introduction

Hi guys,
My first post except for introducing myself in the newbe thread :)

My 500F (my first 500) is in need ofa major restoration/rebuild. I´ve started small, removing doors and interior and cut out the right hand side floor board so far. The rust is far gone :( Some holes, but what is worse is that all the all surrounding sheet metal has serious surface corrosion. So mutch that I fear it´s to thin to be weldable. (Is that a word?)

I have borrowed a jigg/cradle (or what it might be called in english) to suspend the car in, so that I can rotate it and don´t have to cut and weld om my back.

Now to my first question:
Where do I attatch the mountings in the front?
In the back I´ve seen pic´s online how to mount it. Has anyone here done this and have some pointers?

A few pics to lively up the post. (y) (for some reason some pics gets turned, cant figure out why)

So, finally time for the blasters.

Loaded it last night with the help of a few friends, two would have been enough
as You lift it easily on two :)
It´s with nervous curiosity I await the result of this. Maybe I will be left with nothing but a beautiful garden sculpture :)

Time will tell.

Also had to move the Spider, wich is allways a treat :)

Nice workshop that you have there Seb---hope that you were gentle with the spider. Oh, sorry, you meant THAT sort of spyder!

It´s been a bit quiet in this thread, for a change :) The car is still at the blasters and the wait is torture...

So I have a question for you, while I wait.

For you with extended experience of the 500; Is there anything you think should have been done with the 500 from the start, from factory, that FIAT dropt the ball on?
I´m in the unique situation to be able to do almost any improvement to mine, as it is stripped to the bone:)

High and low, let me know! :D

/Seb

Time to lift this thread... at last something is happening :)

The blaster finally got to my car and some pic got sent to me today. I have some bit crossed out, that he doesn´t need to go over, since they are going to be replaces.

Byt do anyone have a reason why he shouldn´t go over the painted parts that are good? (the blue spots still on the car)

Just as well to do it all, or no?

/Seb

Personally Seb, unless you are COMPLTELY sure that that there is nothing hiding under the 'blue' bits (small dents, filler etc.) I would get the whole lot blasted. If nothing else, it is a good, sound foundation for paint.

Got my fullt blasted body back, I got the coming winters work cut out for me ??

Hi guys,
Long time between posts this summer, but now I´m back. As seen earlier in this thread I got shell back from the blasters just before summer. Now I´m ready to dive in, but where to start? :D
I went around to take stock of what needs to be done last night... and its a lot!
First I´m trying to determine what is repairable/weldable and what is just easier to just buy the panels. And its gonna be a lot of new panels

Below I´ll show you the pics of the damage.
This is the lower side of the rear window, some half baked repairs to the rear quarter panel (might be slavageble), rear of the roof and C-pillar.

This is anong my biggest fears, the A-pillar. Seems to be no parts to buy for this, so fabrication might be inevitable.

Some other troublesome areas. Especially where many panels meet.

When the front of my 500 was being rebuilt, we found that the previous 'repairer' had just pop-rivetted bits together to make an 'A' piller. My bodyshop, as you have found, were not able to find 'A' pillars as an after-market item, so also ended up making them
