Seicento My 2.0 16v Seicento Project

Introduction

As most of you already know i was thinking of creating a 2.0 16v fiat seicento......looking at the conversion, its already causing a few issues and wont be straight forward... but im still giving it a go!!

I need to work out how to get the hub / drive shaft combo sorted.... brake callipers + lines need to be worked out, and then the most important, keeping the rear end on the floor when braking!! as i didnt realise how light these cars are with nothing in the rear...

Ive got a T reg seicento sporting with 12months MOT and 6 Months tax, so this is a good base to get started on.

So far the car has been gutted, and im in the process of cutting out the wiring i wont be needing.

Im off on a 300 mile round trip tomorrow to pick the engine up, and then the battle of fitting it in will begin!
lol i havent got any money at the min, already around the -£250 mark with the bank now haha... so the standard seats will do me :p

Anyways... having some major wiring issues, and also plumbing problems... not to mention my shafts have been delayed once again!!!

The plumber has junctioned the rear pipes into one pipe at the rear of the car, meaning i have a flow pipe and no return... he done this just before going on holiday... and hes not able to sort that problem out until thursday eve... so they all look good but are useless.

Upon filling the system we found out that the copper pipes dont like the rubber pipes, so at every join there is a slight seep of water.... meaning it all needs removing and some high temp silicon will need to be fitted at all the joins.... nightmare!!

Then finally... upon checking the electrics.... there is continuity between everything in the damn car!! Everything seems to be attatched to earth somehow... so obviously there is either a wiring mistake, or something attatched to earth somewhere i cant see...

All in all its going tits up..... (not going to let it beat me though, so il be having an early start on it again tomorrow!!)

Anyways as for today... the shafts arrived... so after running over to coventry to collect them i built them up... looking quite sexy, although very expensive!!!

The shafts cost £195 just for the bare shafts, and then the cost of the new ends were around the £140 mark... but at least everything is new and dandy....

The electrical issue has caused a few swear words... especially now we realised that the reason we were getting a dodgy reading was down to the door being open.... The interior light is negative switched, and was giving us a reading through our metre, which was flashing up a fault to earth, rather than an open circuit which in an ideal world it would have (if the door was closed)... So we spent most of the day cutting out all the wiring which i had spend two days soldering in... and for no reason!! Although we did spot some damaged insulation on some wiring that was behind the bulkhead where we had been welding, so sorted that.... So even still i suppose its been worth it in the long run, as that would have caused a few issues and possibly electrical gremlins.

The light outside has gone, so ive had to leave the car semi wired... I will spend tomorrow soldering all the other bits in, and hopefully the alarm if the wiring diagram turns up.. I didnt realise that a CAT 1 alarm / immob it would arrive without the installation manual for security/theft reasons. So i am awaiting a copy from the supplier....

I have also installed a key switch to kill the fuel pump... and will be installing a further immob for the ecu wiring, as i really dont want this car going walkies in the middle of the night when its up and running.

If i get chance tomorrow i will get some pics of the shafts fitted, and the wiring in place.... Then all i have left to do is install the vauxhall clocks when they turn up (taking ages), sort a few odds and ends out... and wait for the plumber to get back off holiday lol...

looking well what are the cv joints from they look to be bigger than seicento ones ?

The inners are cav 22 spline cv's, and the outers are the 20 spline fiat ones... We was adapting hubs to use vauxhall stuff, but that plan went in the bin, and we opted for the fiat stuff, although not sure how well the cv's on the outer will do with 200bhp pushed through them... might have to invest in a few outer CV's, or look at a bigger fiat hub set up in the future...
 
I think they should handle it OK.
what MIGHT happen (unless the shafts are a lot stronger then standard) is the longer shaft might twist.
from what im told this is what fails mostly on the rally centos.
Fiats works rally car has a carrier mounted to the gear box which had the inner cv on the long side extended so the car ran two equal length "short" drive shafts.

Any pics of this? Might be a way of taming torque steer!

For stronger shafts, etc. you might see if Alfa 155 hubs and shafts can be adapted -- they have the right PCD, similar dimensions, and the shafts are tough as old boots (can't say the same for the grearboxen, though!)
