Introduction

Well starting this is well overdue although technically it's still just a car and a big pile of bits at the moment. It will come together quickly though as I have access to a commercial garage in the evenings and on weekends which belongs to a good friend. I'm lucky enough to have another good friend who is a self employed coded welder/fabricator and yet another good friend who owns a powder coating business. Myself, I do electronics so pretty much everything is covered. :D

I'm not going to go into minor details as most of it has been discussed before (especially the engine which was purchased from Gazzaman). However I will answer any questions and will go into detail with the DET 3 setup and installation as there are no UK guides I'm aware of for this.

A 2000 SPI Seicento Abarth (probably manufactured late 1999) which replaces the silver Cinq (SPI Turbocharged) I have recently sold for restoration. The silver chap needed some TLC due to a bad repair from a rear collision before I purchased him. Someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I sold him on with the standard engine and pinched Mrs. Honeymonsters Sei after buying her a newer yellow ragtop replacement which I got a good deal on but wasn't really suitable for my project.

The planned spec is as follows, only thing I'm missing is the TB. Now Sorted (thanks Blu!)

I will just post some pictures of the bits for now and then intermittently as I fit them.

I do however need to keep this car mobile to park it back in my workshop so it will be done in big chunks.

Can't see the picture, probably because I'm not on Facebook. There's a reason for that, if I wanted people I haven't seen for 10 years to know what I'm up to I'd phone them. There is usually a reason why I haven't phoned them or seen them for 10 years... :D Also all those people who add you hardly know like customers etc. People you also don't want to know what your up to (probably because you were on holiday not really a training course...). Just ignore their requests my friends (the ones I want to talk to) say. Then next time you see them... I added you on Facebook but you haven't accepted me yet.... no thanks. LOL Since I don't have a Facebook account the only question I need to answer is that one. :)

Went to the post office today to collect a missed parcel.... It was my new water pipe. :D

Now that's what I call quick delivery, next day to Jersey is almost unheard of! :worship:

It has a much improved version of the original seal which is nice. The first thing we did was to cut it up LOL.

No clearance issues here just needs to go to the powder coaters.

Oil drain fitting modified, just need to fit a longer better quality piece of rubber return pipe. Then after powder coating the fitting can be fitted with the bolts and gasket.

Actuator bracket/s have taken much fiddling to get right as this actuator is quite huge compared to a standard item. It was fiddly making it tight as possible for clearance while trying make sure it can achieve its maximum opening. Still need to remove the actuator, cut down the shaft and rethread the end to the correct length. Then the bracket needs to be removed so it can be fully Tigged up and have a gusset added for strength.
There's more clearance from the pipe than the photo would have you believe.

More decent pictures to follow, it was a bit dark (and damn cold!) and my phone camera sucks in the dark.

Actuator bracket is quite an achievement which will be clear once more photos are added.

i'll go put my rolling pin down, good post.. Thats exactly what i was thinking with the water pipe (y)

Also, its almost unbelievable to me how much higher your turbo is in relation to the sump - i think my theory that my manifold could be cut higher up must be true.. Although how much taller is the 1242 block than the 1108?? can't be that much taller surely?!?
 
My turbo has a significantly larger hole at the exhaust turbine inlet than a GT15. There is a picture very early in the thread showing a comparison.
This allows me to mount the turbo higher/in a fatter section of the manifold. Turbo is also much bigger though so it's as tight as possible against the block. Without the rad mod I'd have flat rad fins... What you gain in one area you nearly always lose in another...
 
i hear you, i keep looking outside and saying to myself, maybe it'll be brighter 2moro - one of these days i'm just gonna have to lie down on the wet floor and crack on.

The floor is dry but there are holes either side of the main door you could get a small horse through. I actually have a space heater I could use but in reality unless the holes were blocked up we would be trying to heat up the the whole island rather than just the workshop. :doh:

Still I'll probably fill it up with red diesel tommorow anythings better than nothing, my brain doesn't work when it gets too cold...
 
6 degrees and raining here but it's only going to get worse so looks like lots of jumpers and a hat will be order of the day.

Mrs HM's Sei has got noticeably noisier when cold since the drop in temperature too. It's only on 32k but sounding decidedly diesely. Looking like I'm going to have to re-shim the tappets since the noise is clearly coming from the head and not the injectors. :bang:
 
Your bothered about a tv arial??!!!! I now have a van sat in the yard with a snapped cam :(

Another winter on the bicycle untill another engine is sourced. And as you know it's pissing down and windy.not what you want for 22miles on a bike

Well the weather is still relentless...

Few bits finished, last dry fit for some parts before they get sent to the powdercoaters.

We also fitted some studs and a captive nut to the manifold for a heat shield.

So we're back on the tools tomorrow but it really is damn cold at the moment. This seems to effect the IQ dramatically and cause the constant dropping of things for no good reason. :confused: LOL

Anyway placed a decent order with Ash silicone hoses today. Came to much less than I expected, they even took the V.A.T. off and only charged me £1.50 postage. :eek:

I went for red in the end, I was going to go for black but just couldn't help myself. :eek:

Some of the colours they do now are just unreal, they cost a premium though.

I also ordered some joiners and proper T Clamps. (y)

Still thinking about how I'm going to mount the air filter make the most of its hot air rejection while avoiding it gobbling up water. The damn thing is hooj, looked much smaller in the picture...

It's one of those HKS Mushroom things. The plan was to have it facing forward in fron of any hot parts of the engine/cooling system etc. Being that it can only draw air from the direction it's pointing this would be ideal. However being lazy with my research I never accounted for the sheer size and 80mm inlet hole. LOL

I can only find silicone adaptors that go from 80 to 70 and my inlet pipe is 50 something mm. So now I'll have to fabricate something to get it to fit and even then find a location for it. It would be ideal if it was half the size! Mind you I guess that would be too small on a Skyline or similar these things are usually fitted to. Anyway I'll figure something out, I see ASH sell the shields for a cone filter and also what looks like a smaller version of the HKS shroom. I rather not use a cone though, the idea of sucking air from all round the engine bay confuses me :confused:. It might be OK once you're moving but it will do a terrible job when you're not...
