1100 FCSA's 103e Build thread

Introduction

So as per Introduction my daughter was gifted a 1956 103e by her godfather. The car has not turned a wheel in about 25years. The idea is to get the car mechanically sound.

Somewhere in its life a Toyota 3K engine and gearbox was transplanted into the car. Sacrilege I know. But it will stay for now. Parts are cheap and it is just about the only thing on the car that works for now.

Restoration wise we are starting with suspension and brakes. The rubbers are all from 1956. I will be recasting these myself with 60 - 80 shore hardness rubber.

Wiring also needs to be redone as it seem to have blown fuses and the solution at the time was to wrap them in foil. The mice and rats also has had a feast on the insulation. It will be getting a new fusebox with relays to take the load of the old switchgear.

Some pictures of the old girl attached

Now is the time where everyone can point and laugh at my stupidity to take on this project.
So progress has been frustratingly slow on this. Life and health got slightly in the way. Managed to order some resins and rubbers to make some new parts.

The rear light lenses are available to buy, but are prohibitively expensive. So the decision has been made to DIY them. A huge thanks for AMT composites for putting up with all my questions and giving advise on what will work better. Their service is brilliant and worthy of a mention.

I was at least able to repair one thing. The front window winder was stripped. It has this stupid metal plate in it which kind of acts like a fuse. But is is sealed in an enclosure that needs to be opened with a grinder. As this car is a learning experience for the kids we remade the plate. This time in aluminium scavenged from a old Land Rover head I have lying in the garage. .

Oh also started with the brakes. Note to self. When using 8bar of air pressure to remove a stuck slave cylinder piston, make sure said piston is not pointing at you..... I will leave it to your imagination why I needed to put that out there.

Also to anyone reading. Please don't use silicone to "fix" brake adjusters. Do it right. Somebodies ears are probably still ringing from when I found all the brake adjusters were stripped and fixed in place with silicone.

Also tried some rust removal. Tried a product called evaporust on these. The outcome is most acceptable.
