Which engine ? 1.1 , 1.2 or 1.3
1.1 Active EcoWhich engine ? 1.1 , 1.2 or 1.3
Hahaha - that got me! If it's not about to fall apart like Peter Perfect's car, you're not doing it right.I think standard driving practice on a 1.1 on hills, is to rev it 'til your teeth vibrate.
Not many, I want to say around 2k ago. New plugs, new coils, it was mostly fine for a few months, and since maybe 5 months ago it's been on and off like this. I kind of accepted it as I wasn't on many long journeys, so it was mostly unnoticed at 30mph city driving. How many miles ago were the plugs last changed ?
A bit of vibration. I'll pop a video below (it wasn't doing it as badly), but it has a kind of judder a bit when it's in idle, as if gasping for air.Does it idle smoothly or can you feel a bit of vibration
It doesn't appear to be revving, and if it is, it's slight.Do the revs ever fluctuate at idle
Good question, I think it's better for the first say 45 minutes of running it than it is into a 3 hour journey. I'm perhaps just thinking that, but it definitely was struggling yesterday when I got further into my journey and was motorway driving. Is there and difference between hot or cold engine
Before I've done the rest, I can tell you one of the leads made the car judder a helluva lot! Could it be as simple as, despite being new, one of the plugs or leads has simply given up?Take each spark plug lead of the coil pack one at a time, start the engine and see if one makes no difference
I guess it's shaking like in the video I posted earlier when it's running on two cylindersBefore I've done the rest, I can tell you one of the leads made the car judder a helluva lot! Could it be as simple as, despite being new, one of the plugs or leads has simply given up?
I’m hoping this works as uploading from a phone. Forgive the probably horribly unsafe video, the leads seemed to rumble out of place, catch metal and spark a bit.I guess it's shaking like in the video I posted earlier when it's running on two cylinders
Go through the test one at a time
We need to know if
1,2
3,4
1,4
2,3
If it's not firing on 1,4 or 2,3 it's likely to be a coil or it's wiring
Well done in posting, nI’m hoping this works as uploading from a phone. Forgive the probably horribly unsafe video, the leads seemed to rumble out of place, catch metal and spark a bit.
First video is running on 3,4: Rumbling, but works
Second video on 1, 2: Rumbling, but works
Third video on 2, 3: Won’t start
Fourth video on 1, 4: Won’t start, but seems like more life.
Fifth video with all plugged in for good luck![]()
Good suggestion koalar. About a year, possibly slightly longer, after Becky joined the "family fleet" and after I'd done all the outstanding stuff I considered important - new cam belt kit, full service, new front shockers and top mounts and a few other things I decided to clean her Map sensor. She was, I thought, running quite well before although I did feel that she "held back" a bit on large throttle openings. The sensor is very easy to remove, just one screw holds it in, and when I pulled it out the end was absolutely drenched in engine oil, but no Mayo. I cleaned it with sensor cleaner - brake cleaner works just as well I'm told - and the difference was quite noticeable. She was considerably more "eager" and pulled more strongly. I now clean the sensor every year as part of the service procedure.Take the MAP sensor out and look if it's covered in a white oil emulsion
It's on the side of the black air intake, held in by one torx, you can leave the electrical wire connected normally
Just checking, are we talking about this here?Well done in posting, n
Both coils are fine,
Good chance all the plugs are fine
Good chance all the injectors are fine
The head gasket hasn't gone between 1,2
Everything is as it should be
You appear to be running on all 4 cylinder at idle
Test the exhaust as per previous
