Seicento 1.4 Uno Turbo'd Seicento Rebuild Thread

Introduction

As a few of you may know, ive bought a nail of a car... I myself knew this, but i wanted to spend some time, money and effort to get it back in a show & stand worthy condition.

It was owned on here by 'wardy25' and as far as i can tell he spent a fortune on her... It was later sold, and then neglected... So far i understand that the car was left off the road for ages, owned by chavs, and thrashed, and thats only when its actually been running...

After it being sold on and on, i ended up snapping up the car...

The car has loads of problems, which i knew prior to me buying her, but she does come with loads of cool stuff...

The interior is full leather, its got powder coated abarth wheels, skirts spoiler, uprated brakes, and the main thing.... a tasty 1.4 uno turbo engine... which i think is the MK2 engine.

The car also comes with panels hanging off, cold start problems, faded paint, wiring faults, and more holes in the exhaust than swiss cheese....

So as a good thread goes.... here are a few pictures of the car in its current condition...

Hopefully in the near future, it wont look anything like it does today...
you can buy gasless stainless wire for the mig. I used some before and it works pretty good , with any gasless mig it spits a lot (not really a problem on and exhaust)

we used it on a garage door.

btw when i had my exhaust made the guy said the cento is one of the hardest to make due to how tight it is and how close all the bends are together... just a warning :)

lol i know the exhausts are a pain to make, you only have to see my redtop one haha, hopefully round two will be easier....

On a note with the runners... mine work fine... after a little bending of the bit you pull lol...

Anyone know a good place to get harnesses from? After cheap and cheerful.... and would the sei suit 3 or 4 point harnesses the best? Looking for minimal work as i dont fancy welding mounting plates above the fuel tank...

Anyone selling any ;)

Cheers, Got my eyes on some sexy ones on ebay...

Ive bought some dark grey faux suede material to trim the whole lot out (except dash etc).. so these belts would look fairly sexy....

Anyways...

Today i attacked my exhaust, was fed up of it hanging funny... what a friggin' nightmare!

Never going to be mint as i have to cut and weld the thing as i dont have access to a bender, or the funds for someone else to bend it for me lol

Its still not finished, but heres where i got....

Oh, it'll make a difference. You can buy bends seperately, but I dunno if anyone does them in 2mm. Any thinner and you'd probably burn holes in it with the gasless one. :bang:

Can't you borrow a proper MIG set off someone?

Funds are tight at the min, as im still stuck with the redtop sei on the drive... its ate all my cash, and still haunting my wallet just sat there lol.

The bore of the exhaust is a lot bigger than the one that came off, and all the internal parts of the tubing have been filed as best as possible at all the joins, so it should flow better than what came off the car.

The one which was fitted had been blowing in over 8 places!.. it looked to be thrown together in an hour or so...

So this one cant be any worse lol...

If it does effect the engine in a negative way (which i doubt seeing the one that came off) then il get it booked in for a pro exhaust when the funds are available...

Is the engine still running the stock turbo? If it is then you could always get a UT exhaust system and shorten/shape it a little...

No, a hybrid garratt turbo...

TO be honest i think that is what the exhaust i removed is, a bodged uno one.

Anyways left it for the day, i feel too ill, and its wet outside lol...

Been passing the time with a bit of suede trimming, while my partner is out shopping lol...

****FAO turbocinq****

The engine mount pics... not brilliant as the weather is pants, il get some better as soon as poss...

The front left (big ball looking thing on the inner wing, is an oil engine mount from the UNO)... I wouldnt use this if i was building a turbo car from scratch, it has too much play in it when its fubar, and its not changeable with the engine in position, the engine has to come completely out.

I have also put up a pic of the inner horn on the wing which has been removed and re welded. Bit close to the cambelt, but its been like this for years so i can only assume its alright.

The rear mount is a seicento mount, theres a plate welded on, then bolted to the gearbox of the uno engine.

The front gearbox/engine mount is almost impossible to picture, it runs from the front passenger side of the engine, and is bolted to the underside of the front inner wing. (possibly where the standard fiat one is located, i cant remember).

Also pictured is the lack of space, and the wiring mess... (this will all be sorted on mine sometime soon)...

If you do get stuck your welcome to have a look round when she's running properly.

they're not over-tight tho, and the exhaust isn't small - just be a few rough edges inside.. which don't matter down stream of the turbo - it doesnt need to be a tuned system to the tailpipe.

It matters. How much a dyno will tell. Tuned length doesn't matter -- ideally a turbo needs as short a pipe as possible. But anything which impedes the gas getting out will affect gas flow through the entire system, turbine included. Essentially, that's why people put dividers between the outlet and wastegate, run seperate wastegate outlets, merge the wastegate to the outlet at very narrow included angles etc.

Of course, it probably doesn't matter in so far as the big problem with that car is likely to be getting the power down anyway! ;)

aye i know, hence why on a car i worked on we put a valve in the ehxaust that opened up a 2" diameter, 4" long pipe when the car started to come on boost - loud, but did the job.

but it's a road car, and by redoing the whole system with proper bends is going to have bugger all effect on the way the car drives!

Is that what a screamer pipe is?

I was told to look into one by someone who i know, but i only thought they were a 'noise' modification rather than doing anything useful..

Had a go at a trimming a few bits up in my grey faux suede....

I had a go at the passenger panel between the dash and roof which came out mint... Would do the drivers side but i need to get hold of one from a mate off here...
Ive also done the rear speaker cards... I wont be fitting them in just yet though as i dont want to damage anything with welding in harness mountings etc...

I think the interior should look pretty sweet when all is done... although one thing i do want to remove and trim is the headlining, as that would look pretty sexy in the suede... but i need to know if this can be done without removing any glass, as if glass needs removing then il sack that idea off haha.

i think they are, yeah. i learnt the name like 3 years after fitting it. The valve was just a butterfly connected up to a 'wastegate style' actuator.
