Had a lovely short conversation with a guy in a pick-up. Road narrows due to parked cars on my side. Enough room for us both, so I kept going. Into the middle, he stops and waves at me to stop too. So windows alongside, he squeaks about 'right of way' and I should have given way.
"Have our mirrors clashed?" I asked. "No".
"Have you hit the kerb?" "No"
"Where's the problem then?"
And off I went, with a silly smirk.

My last Panda has been the destroyer of many Audi and BMW wing mirrors .... god knows how it didn’t fall off .. it was cracked, scratched and once the mirror fell off. I’m sure an entire new assembly cost less than the wiring loom for the more on those German cars, oops.

(And every time it was because either they were parked on a double yellow line at a junction OR crossing when it’s a 30 zone with a ‘one way priority’ stop, seeing the Panda and thinking they’ll take the risk). Hope their shortcut outweighs the repair cost...

I’m gonna guess you didn’t stop and leave your insurance details having smashed the wing mirror off a parked car regardless of location is still 100% your fault.... best case even if it’s through a priority type junction you’d be 50% to blame as priority is not an absolute right.

It’s not illegal in every case to be stopped on double yellows (y) and in any motoring incident when property is damaged you’re supposed to stop and exchange details.

You’re that person who damages someone’s car, thinks it’s funny and doesn’t leave a note or anything, justifying your behaviour because it’s a BMW or Audi.

I’m sure your attitude would be completely different if you came back to your new car to find someone had deliberately damaged it and driven off.

Or where you just posting this to perpetuate the ‘I hate BMW and Audi’ rhetoric that some on here seem to like

I find that Merc / BMW / Audi drivers tend to leave excessive space on the left but when push comes to shove they won't argue with an old car coming the other way and they will move to make space. They will complain it's their piece of road but in the end they know they know the old car is worth 2p and their PCP will screw them hard for any repairs.
The biggest issue with these people is entitlement. "I pay a fortune for this palace on wheels so everyone should get out of my way".
But I'm not excusing old car drivers of entitlement mentality. All too many expect at least 100 yards in front (just in case) and get horribly upset when someone quite legally and safely uses that space. These entitled drivers are the ones who aggravate traffic queues by leaving excessive space and not moving forward promptly.

Well, to be fair, if I was blocking a busy junction outside a takeaway or busy junction with my car so that nobody could have any hope of manoeuvring around it during a short green light of bumper-to-bumper traffic, I'd not be surprised if somebody later recognised the car and made their anger known. It'd be sh*tty, but if I was a sh*tty inconsiderate driver causing other people a lot of headache out of ignorance, surely that'd serve me right.. (or anybody)

Another thing would be if I drive like an absolute jack*ss, while it'd be totally illegal for someone to get out and assault me, you can totally see where the aggravation arose from.

Out of curiosity, when is it okay to be stopped on double yellow lines?

For the record, if I had a 30k+ car I'd be doing everything to NOT p*ss people off, knowing that there's probably a lot of jealous / hateful people out there who would consider damaging it regardless, I'd not want to give a single reason for them to 'justify' any bad behaviour.

My old mirror had clipped a lot of cars, from new flash ones to old bangers, all where the drivers decided they would squeeze through despite their side of the road being blocked etc. I can only assume they didn't care as they drove on. Let's face it, it's not like they'd not spot me again in such a funny looking little battered up car in a small city like where I live.

Don't get me wrong, it's silly and lowering down to their level. And it's certainly stopped 110% with the new car. I keep a good distance from the traffic in front, and no longer try to block people from cutting in. I just drive to the edge of the line to 'force' them to overtake properly and not be dangerous, which I'm sure is fine. When people do overtake now etc, I just let them and actually make it easier to.

Luckily though, the manual black plastic mirrors on the new car will still cost me what, £25 for an entire brand new assembly? Definitely a lot less to cry about in the event it does get clipped.

I remember in 2015 getting a repair quote from a Vauxhall dealer for my mums 2004 Corsa Active which had coloured electric mirrors, one cover cracked. They wanted £440 for a deep blue painted insert plus fitting.... Unbelievable. Now, what would that price be at Audi? hmm...

If you have a valid disabled badge and you aren't contravening loading restrictions or any other plated restrictions, and you are a safe distance from any junction you can park on them for 3 hours nevermind stop on them.

My smile..Mortgage sorted until munchkin is well into school. Saving myself 55 quid a month..and fixing it against any post brexit Bank of England shenanigans.

Rees-Mogg ran "sensible" figures through the treasury economic model and got a boost to the economy of £80 Billion. Hammond ran the model with his worst of all worlds figures and found a loss of £90 Billion. Bearing in mind that Hammond's shouts of doom have been wrong from the outset, I think its fair to say we will at least be no worse off and might be better off.

I think you're mistaken.

Rees-Mog ran the figures and found he'd personally be £80bn better off... even if the country was bankrupt!

It works far better if you look at the actions of the big brexit supporters rather than listen to the uninformed sound bites that come from their mouths.

Rees-Mogg for example, moving his company out of the UK because he believes in Britain.

Farage Shorting the Pound pre-referendum, then ensuring his children are German citizens.

Raab..paying money to family members for a none existent ferry service and despite the contract being cancelled it still cost the tax payer money.

They definitely want to make this work for the country.

Politicians..

'Self.serving'

Oh hang on.. they will no doubt have a
( tax deductable ) aide to do that.. ;)

Anyone who trades stocks, comodidites or currency using their own personal politics as a guide is a fool. Whatever you think of them, these folks are not fools.

I agree they aren't fools wholeheartedly, they've convinced half the country that their self interest is in the national interest with a mixture of nationalism, misdirection and just good old fashioned lying.

Hammond has spent the last three years saying how terrible Brexit will be. Not one of his predictions has happened. Hardly surprising when he simply shoves the worst case values into his economic model but its also useless for any sort of realistic planning.

The whole mess of this last three years has been the continuing uncertainty.

Leave - OK then get one with it
Remain - OK admit you screwed up on the referendum, Brexiteers would have got over it.

Instead we had a bunch of amateurs trying to go through the door without leaving the building. We now have a polarised situation between leavers and remainers and no useful agreement with the EU. Exit with no leaving arrangement is now the only option (because the deal on offer is so awful). No deal is a myth anyway as there are lots of side deals.

But the economy is still doing fine and will continue to do after we have left. All the hype about "crashing out", etc is from people with personal reasons to gain from the EU. It's hard to find any leavers who are giving up EU money to do it.

Brexiteers would get over it? Not a chance. Farage will go on and on whipping up a frenzy amongst the hard of thinking until people stopped giving him air time.

As for the economy doing fine... tell that to all those whose jobs have already gone or will be going as a direct result of us not having a suitable trade agreement with our largest trading partner.

And don’t be taken in by the employment figures, we aren’t a nation of unemployed people, we are a nation of under employed people. Zero hour and short contracts for people who want to work full time doesn’t paint a picture of economic success to me.
