Would you put Halfords oil in your car?

I've only used Halfords wipers once, about 15 years ago and never again. They were on the car for a week and I ripped them off and threw them away. Only ever use Bosch now.

wierd thing though, my punto had a wicked misfire whenever it got wet when I first got it. HT leads first suspect so I bought bosch leads, no difference. pratted about for ages with no success and eventually in a fit of pique replaced the leads again with Halfords own brand. Cured!!
imho doesn't matter what oil you use as long as you change it regularly. Halfords changed every 6000 miles is probably going to be better than selenia changed at 9 or 12 or whatever Fiat recommend these days!

. I know Beany is fretting about his turbo bearings failing... so it makes sense he uses something that to the best of knowledge gives him a fair shot at success.

Would anyone use "cleaned and re-cycled" oils....?
We all use cleaned and re-cycled oils, the oil itself does not degrade and it's just cleaned and has new additives put in to get the performance back and then back on the shelf.
What brand of oil you use is not a black and white issue, I usually use the cheapest I can get with the correct API grade*, however Comma semi synthetic made the Tempra TD "diesel clatter" a lot louder, I can only guess this was due to some volatile fraction getting past the rings. Changing to any branded oil such as Esso or Mobile fixed it. For the Marea and MG I use Comma or Halfords or a branded oil depending on the deal. TBH making sure you simmer the turbo after using the car will have more effect than choice of oil, I had no turbo probs using the Comma and I always used to let the car idle for a short time before turning it off.
* in fact for both my cars I can get a grade better than the minimum without paying a fortune.

Agreed... but are you actually saying no car oil is actually "New" its all recycled? That confuses me, cant be right surely... IIRC some oil suppliers specialise in "cleaned" oils, but there is New Oil out there, esp synthetics...?

I wouldn't be suprised if all oils have a percentage of recycled product in them. They must do something with the millions of gallons of oil removed from vehicle lubrication systems each year - and recycling it would make sence if it's cheaper than the whole process of extracting and refining new oils.

not really it can be burnt to make electric (y) I use some cheap semi synth. get about 25liters for 30quid. its from dads mate who drives lorrys so i guess its ordered thru a company.
we have used it for years now and never had a probblem. engines are always spotless inside (y)

As long as it meets the required ACEA spec for the car it will be fine, otherwise you can sue the companies as long as you can prove the oil caused the damage:chin:

More expensive oils are either just hyped up to an inflated price or in a few cases actually usuing better quality base stock, i.e full synthetics not hydrocracked stuff.

Again the hard bit is getting past the hype and seeing the truth, should be able to get some spec off the manufacturers website(y)

Getting my car serviced today, and i gave them halfords 5w40 fully synthetic to put in it. It had 10w40 semi synthetic big branded oil in it last time so ill update to see if its any quieter, sounded like a real tractor from cold recently. (getting the cambelt changed aswell, cant wait to drive it again without worrying about pushing it :D)

Bit late in the thread now I know but here's my opinion:
Surely its a bit like supermarket fuel. It's manufactured to comply with the standards and many people are very happy with although if you pay a little more you may get a slightly better product.

Right now I only use Selenia as my car is still in warranty. If it was older I wouldn't bother with the official stuff.

Ok the car has the halfords fully synthetic 5w40 in it now, and its soooo much quieter from cold! doesn't sound like a tractor anymore lol and it seems to respond a bit better too but thats possibly just because the oil before was a year old.
(only just realised the garage didnt give me back my bottle of oil! Should still have 2.2litres in it! going to give them a ring in the morning! )

1L at most, unless the oil filter wasn't changed, my 999cc uno used over 4L on an oil change
