This is my next project once the Punto Cabrio is finished. I need a yellow. 20V turbo with black leather interior.
That'll be sweet! How far away is the cabrio from done?

I am tempted to buy something classic, I know i'd be really into the new skills required to get it looking nice and working properly, but i need a third car to drive and would also like a van to convert. I can be a bit indecisive with things like this.

I suppose you already know about Anglia Cars that auction classic cars, and its not far from your neck of the woods (I think).

If 'very' was a unit of measurement, then that is the unit I would use to answer your question. It is at least 1 very

Yep, you can watch their auctions live if you are so inclined. Usually in the days after a sale you see the bought cars making their way home on trailers or in some cases driving, with the auction stickers and marking still on the front screen.

LOL. Your standards are "very" high.

You made me think about laughter, so i went to find some amusing car gifs.

Picking up the new family bus tomorrow. It's replacing a VW Tiguan. Positive that I'll have range anxiety and no doubt worry (as it will definitely happen) that the wife will scuff the 21" alloys.View attachment 457732

19.4 inch alloys..
An expensive modification

Out panda driver went from a Panda with untouched plastic trims
To a panda with gouges over 60% of the alloy face ( quite an achievement..)

I would like a 500e, but electric just won't work for me,
might need to retire first..

I have always wanted a Punto Cabrio, is yours 8v or 16v??? I went to look at one once, turned out to be a total shed and they wouldn't budge on the price, it was £1000, and this was 10yrs ago when they weren't worth that. Shame because they are worth more now lmao.

There will be a few..

But "resting" no doubt 😉

I test drove a few.. All on 73k 😏

Bought the Jtd instead.. Was pretty capable.. But Not cool 😊
My perfect Fiat garage would be,

Marea 20v wagon as my daily.
Cinquecento with a 1.4 16v swap as a track car.
Punto Cabrio 16v as a summer car.

yes mine is a the newer 1.2 16V 86hp version. being a UK model. The only thing that lets it down is the lack of Aircon but its got everything else you would expect of a car of that age. of your 3 car garage I have driven all of them. The 20V marea makes a lovely sound but isn't as fun as the turbo version in the Coupe.

One of my early Girlfriends had a Cinquecento, a 1.1 which I could push up to 100mph with only me in the car (I don't condone that, I was young and stupid then) so a 1.4 swap would be mental. I have seen that the 1.4 from the 500 abarth actually still uses the same engine mounts and therefore is an easy transplant into the cinq, its just the engine management which makes it a little more tricky. you definitely have a love of 90s Fiats lol

Yeah, I do have a thing for them, family life took me away from fiats as I needed a 7 seater and fiat don't really do anything fun like that, so spent most of the last 7yrs in Turbocharged Vauxhall's lol.

But, now my needs have changed and I am seriously considering a Doblo MPV as my next car, and no, it won't be staying stock lmao.

I have had many Fiats over the years, my favourite was my Cinq, 1.2 8v P75 swapped with some engine work, and lots of suspension/brakes and body mods, was an amazing little car and what got me hooked. My first fiat was a 240bhp Uno Turbo back a good 15yrs ago, it was utterly terrifying to drive and I sold it after about 3 months and 2 near misses lmao.

I think I'd probably take pretty much anything from that era...

They made a lot of cool cars in the 90s, probably 5 cylinder marea weekend for me as I could sell that as a sensible family car.

Never going to happen, 😏

But I would put the 90 bhp 1248cc from a GP into an Uno,

My old 1.7td punto wasn't a slug

So would be a really driveable classic
I would love to have an Uno that I could drop a T-Jet in, maybe a 595 version lmao. I wish I could say older and wiser, but I can't lmao.

Ha, just found this thread :D

1st choice: smart 451 cabrio with the 84 HP engine
2nd choice: FIAT 500C Dualogic
3rd choice: methane powered VW up / Skoda CitiGo / Seat Mii with a panoramic roof. Pity it doesn't have the automatic transmission, but is the only one of the three that will allow me to drive all around for the next 6 - 7 years without looking for any eco zones in the cities here, they just discovered those last year... And yes, I'm very for, I hate old diesels and say they should be banned from cities :p

It's quite possible I'll buy one of these this or latest next year for my new daily :)

I had to google to see what the smart cabriolet is, i'd prefer the 500C, but will hazard a guess that the smart cab is more reliable.

I'm now on the look out for a Fiat Panda Active 1.1L, from 2004-2008. It has an insurance category of 1, so the cheapest to insure.

Good choice but the only thing is the tax will be normal rate whereas if you get the same Panda 1.1 Active but an Eco version so between 2009 - 2011/12 the tax will only be £35 a year, that's the only downside to my Seicento as the tax is £210 a year, but if I was on a lookout for another Panda I'd get an Eco just for the tax saving as they don't drive any different. I think the 169 Panda is a much better car than the 319 Panda like I had especially after the issues I had with it which has put me off ever buying another one.

The ECO engine is a good spot. The insurance group is the same still 1, and cheaper tax. Tax on the non-ECO is £190 it seems, a lot more than £35. I'll update my search, thanks.

In the smarts the clutch / gear change are electrically steered, so yes, it's more reliable and needs less maintenance than the Dualogic. Although is not maintenance free (needs one simple adjustment once per 30 tkm). And is standard, not a payable option. In the cheapest versions it needed manually touching the lever to change gears (like a typical sequential gearbox), which gave the ECU to operate the clutch and the gears, but it's an easy and cheap retrofit to activate the 'automatic' function.

Another great advantage of the smart in big cities is its length. The model I drive is 2,5 m long, the newer one I want to buy is 2,7 m long. Extremely easy to park :)

I've never lived in a city, only medium size towns, so parking has never been a big issue for me. If I ever go to the nearest city, Liverpool, then I park in a multi storey car park and walk around. This isn't tiring but it does make travel quite slow.

I look forward to the day when the electric bikes available on the street to hire are replaced by electric self driving cars.
