What's made you smile today?

A Happy birthday message from the Fiat Forum brightened my day a little, although it's hard to celebrate anything in there times.

I’m working from home currently, could be worse. It is saving me a fortune in commenting and lunch.

I did it in my old job, it doesn't agree with me generally though I've been supplied with my computer from work (literally they just said come in and grab your computer and chair as the office shut on Friday).

Last time I did it was on a laptop and it was an absolute pain in the arse as we have to use multiple systems and programs simultaneously so usually have multiple screens but as we picked up everything I've brought all my screens as well :slayer:

Commute will be convenient and given it's set up in the kitchen I'm 3 feet from the kettle for when I fancy a brew at least.

Aye I know about these things, drill is a parkside jobbie so not really bothered about it. Kind of wanted an easy fix there & then.
The first 18v drill I bought was when Lidl introduced them. Thought I'd take a chance as I'd had other, non electrical stuff, which had been good. This drill was immediately used, extensively, to rebuild the inside of my son's flat. The front bearing failed within a few days. Lidl were very good and exchanged it. The new one allowed the job to be finished but that same bearing was quite noisy by then with a lot of "slop" in it. I bought a Ryobi One + 18v to replace it. All are Ni-Cad. Now, several years later, The Ryobi is still going absolutely fine both mechanically and electrically with both batteries continuing to hold good charge. The cheap drill can't be used as none of the batteries (2 which came with the replacement drill and one which I, genuinely, forgot to put in the box when I exchanged the broken one) will now hold a charge. I don't know but I suspect a lot of that is down to quality. The Ryobi batteries, of the same capacity as the Parkside, definitely power the drill for longer. However the Ryobi was very considerably more expensive so I think the Parkside would probably be a good solution for someone who was only ever going to give it only light use.

Something to keep me interested for the day under the circumstances, the wife on the other hand spent her day in our rear garden shifting things & making new arrangements for our log store........:D

I've just spend £20 on a Parkside drill. It can use the batteries I bought with the Parkside angle grinder and save wear-n-tear on the rather lovely (but now quite grubby) DeWalt XR.

Fuel here was at 102p yesterday. Love it!

60p a gallon reduction in one day here.

Benefit of the lock down is the tangibly cleaner air and the blue skies. Apparently fact that the grey weekends of the last many years are a product, at least in part, of air pollution build up in the week and fine particulates encouraging cloud formation.

I bet the price will go back up much much faster than its falling immediately there is a sniff of the return of normality.

13pence a litre change.. do they not get through many deliveries ?

Careful skating on ponds and dykes..
Talk of us returning to an 1800's climate may be a tad premature ;)

SB1500 as per a previous discussion this is an interesting video about the E-Golf and what's happening to it.

Basically the E-Golf line is being canned and they won't make another. (at least not at the moment)

But its an interesting discussion from someone who has lived with it for 2 years and all its positive and negative points https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYHmSDwuBUY

I’ll give that a watch at lunch time. What a channel name!!! Lol

I reckon VW will be back with something either in the same class as the Golf that’s all electric soon with their latest developments in EV’s in the coming years.

I suppose as you mentioned before about the whole designing a car to fit both a combustion engine and an electric power train is probably not worth it for them with the future being electric only? I must give the video a watch to see what he says.

It’s quite interesting as it’s more of an owners review and as I said talking about both positives and negatives including the problems electric cars have with heating

I reckon VW will be back with something either in the same class as the Golf that’s all electric soon with their latest developments in EV’s in the coming years.

They already have its call the ID3 called so as it’s the 3rd major change in vw history, first the beetle from the 50s till the 70s, the golf from the 70s till now and now the ID3 is supposed to be the future as far as the golf is concerned, however so many people love the golf I suspect like the beetle they will go on making it well into the future.

From what he says in the video they have squeezed the e-golf bits into the new e-UP making it have a much better range and power so to some extent that technology lives on, but the e-golf is now dead going forward.

119/litre on Monday 106 on Tuesday. Very very few cars around on the roads and I suppose local miles only. So probably a lot slower sales recently.

On my weekly scamper to shop for my uncle, actually saw police cars around. One on a busy B-road, gently pointing his speed gun at traffic, seemed to appreciate the wave I gave him, when he thought he was nicely hidden. On the return journey, he was still there, and I'd been followed by two 'competitive' Focuses, frustrated that there were no opportunities to get past the Panda. Just before the police car, there is a series of bends, not much, so I was surprised to pull away from them. As I passed the police car, the first Focus appeared behind, travelling much quicker then me. (I was at the speed limit) Caught a glimpse of a smile from the policeman, never saw the Focuses again, presumably they stopped for a discussion.

Short while later, quite an operation in Swindon, at a place where they used to run a check regularly. I'd left the previous lights and been overtaken by everything, so was popping along the 40 dual-carriageway, all alone. Just after the policeman with the 'gun', there is the next road on the left were most of the cars that had 'left me'. Oops!

With less traffic, I've seen a significant decline in standards. Presumably crime is lower, burglars are probably signing up for jobseekers allowance, so the police have time to look at motorists again.

I wonder how they conduct the interview from 2m.

The back end of a Panda has ample space for batteries if you loose the fuel tank. They can go from front edge of the rear seat right up to between the rear whels. BUT the weight would be badly out of balance. Probably why such rubbish batteries are offered in the ICE converted designs from any manufacturer.

The solution has to be a skateboard design with battery under the floor. A longer chassis gives adequate leg room. Alternatively, a taller car with a big cargo area and low ground clearance. Funnily enough, that's what Tesla have done with the Model 3 and Model Y.

Back to making me smile. We are just watching top gear. My thoughts were I wouldn't mind a Bugatti Veyron. My daughter looked at me and said "what! You wouldn't rather have a few new Fiat Pandas"!

I said I wonder how many you could buy for the cost of a new Veyron....

Well the new Veyron is apparently $3,000,000. So thats 200 new Pandas then!

SO I have decided that I think the neighbours would be more impressed with 200 new Pandas than 1 Veyron (Chiron)

Problem is where would I park them all.

May be have them all trimmed in leather and all fitted with sunroofs. Fancy Paint jobs, gold plated Panda badges.

So with every accessory and the above.... that would be 113 new pandas

So, If I had some delivered with those track type wheels and a couple of monster Pandas, a rally spec Pandakar, a triple axle 6 wheel drive special and an amphibious Panda etc I could start to see the numbers coming down low enough that I could get them all parked in our road. I am now certain I would rather have the money than a Chiron! RESULT.

I think they just say YOUR NICKED but much louder! I agree some of the driving here has become silly. I was in town 2 days ago to get some supplies and doing just on 30 in the 30 limit when a Bentley came up behind at considerably higher speed tried to over take on the level crossing just before traffic lights in the right turn lane and then screeched to a halt nearly in my boot at an angle of 45 degrees to intended direction of travel. Do I wish I had my dash cam switched on. The speed people are driving round here beggars belief.

Them 'poor' footballers have no other outlet now ;)

For that money you could have an original Lancia Stratos rally car complete with Dino V6 engine. An appreciating asset better than money in the bank.

You could also have a replica (complete with Alfa Romeo V6) also appreciating asset better than money in the bank but usable.

To paraphrase George Best - spend it on parties cars and women. The rest will only get wasted.

Set up to work from home,

By this time tomorrow I'll probably be thoroughly sick of it but at the moment it's nice to have something to do.

To quote myself, was actually a canny week.

Flew over in fact as current situation meant I've been extremely busy indeed getting stuff back on track after being out of the game for a week.

Probably helped by work relaxing their normal home working policy and just saying "grab everything you need and take it home" So rather than the usual tiny laptop and sofa set up I had last time which makes my job very hard indeed and uncomfortable over the course of a 9 hour day. Literally have my work multi-screen PC and office chair. Also my home broadband is better than the office one so if anything it's running better.

Glad of something to do (week before was a very long), Glad to not be one of the millions who currently face uncertainty about their jobs also glad I don't need to go outside...

Wife is not so lucky given she works for the NHS but there's a lot of people in much worse places right now.
