Badge minus masking:

my masking wasn't perfect so i did have some bleeding so im sanding off where it has bled. as you can see i also managed to scratch the black over the chrome surround slightly with the scalpel whilst removing the masking but this can be airbrushed out later.
all in all for a first attempt im quite pleased. now all i need to do is mask off the black so i can paint the purple later this week and then air brush out any scratches etc and then give a good ten coats or so of lacquer.

Sorry but they look fooking gash :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck:

Carl, you can add the cost of 2 new badges to your list of 'mods'

:( Sorry the badge didnt turn out so good.

Looks like you might have gotten paint seeping between the masking tape.
- Try a finer tape and be careful not to spray too much paint in one layer.
Tamiya do a really fine masking tape.

Did the paint peal with the masking tape at the bottom where its gone jagged?

Maybe if you make a stencil for the fiat lettering then sand the entire thing smooth and start again, I would.

aye it seeped a little bit i just need to mask it better for when i do the purple. i didnt overlap the masking tape very well which is why it seeped the masking tape i got is some 10mm width then masked round the lettering and the main shield part of the badge its easily sorted although tme consuming. all i need to do is sand off where it has seeped mask round the shield and the text properly and then it should be fine.

i got the paint a bit too runny as well which didnt help and should have done lighter coats but you dont learn till you try. yes they arent brilliant infact it has come out pretty poorly to be honest but purely due to a few daft mistakes. it does look worse in the pics to the actual artical though.

but as a bonus there is now a chap seeling the badges on ebay for £5 each.

I would sand it paint the entire thing your deep purple. Use as little paint as possible, your not rust proofing the badge just getting a colour on there.

Then make a masking tape stencil for the fiat lettering.
Ive seen masking tape sheets that are A4 you can draw or even print on them, then peal of the backing and stick it to stuff.

Then paint the black

Then laquour it.

yes you have far to much paint on there. you just need to dust it on. as little as possible. i would do about 5 very thin coats. with about 10mins between(put them on the radiator or something between coats. the paint then will not RUN under the mask.

more evidence that it has to much paint is the fact it took so long to dry. :)

when you come to laquour it you can put as much as that stuff on as you like :)

It really does look pretty awful tbh.....

Why not just get a printing company to print you the centre on vinyl in whatever colourway you want, then paint the badge black and stick the vinyl centre on....?

im gonna see if i can rescue them then if that doesnt work ill try some masking like adrian suggested and finally if that doesnt work ill see about getting some printed as you suggest.

Since cleaning it up it has now advanced from a 5 year old being more careful to a 7 year old being more careful than that
