General Red Key

General Red Key

97 55S - came with one red, and two blue. Blue 1 unlocks drivers door only, blue 2 does ignition and all other door locks. No spares...

Daughter loses both blues. Now has to drive using red, and locking drivers door from inside, and then locking passenger door.

What's the cheapest way out of this? Ideally we'd end up with one blue for the doors and ignition.

When i got my punto back in 11-2005 the only keys i got was a black & blue.
Black fits the ignition & blue to open the doors.Have got a Punto 60sx (date of registration is 31-03-1998) do i need to get a red key. where can i get it how much will it cost.

Thanks Den.

There you are Chris, look out for a little triangle and circle symbol and the number 2 on your keys and if you have that then you won't need a red key. If you can't find it then whoops, ask the previous owner :)

forgot to say both keys have a little triangle and circle symbol .

im 99% sure that you SHOULD have a red key

as the ones without have that little circle and triagle symbol, but with a 2 underneath it (its v2 in other words)

need any more info? (y)

(PS... Mines a lowly bag of nails mk1....for now anyway...)

I have heard it s a dealer job to get the blue key. The red one has immobiliser info right????

lol i used the very same red key since i got my car ages ago n dint even realise u shudnt use it untill i tuk it 2 a garage n the gev me a tellin off

DenWestie- You dont need a red key, but you do need to always have a copy of your ign key (at home). The black key you have looks like it may not have a transponder in it?. Could be the immo is bypassed. Take it to locksmith and have it checked, if there is a transponder in there, then have a new key cloned/copied.
Tony.

Patch124- Just order up a pre-programmed blue key (any code), probably cheapest from locksmith or e-bay for £10, and use your red key to introduce the blue key/s, using the normal procedure.

Cheers Tony ill let the locksmith check that out for me.

I was led to believe they stopped doing the red keys after 99 - is this correct??

Bought my Brava 80SX 1.2 from a private sale and didnt know about the red key thing until a few weeks later . I contacted the seller and asked him , he said he only had the one blue key .:bang:

After scouring the internet i found the CODEMAN's website , promising he could re-programme the ecu and supply 2 blue and the special red key .
His address is in Sheffield , ( about an hours drive fron Grimsby , where i live) so after leaving emails and phone messages suggesting i drive to him and get it done i got quite a sharp email back (n) saying that no one ever drives their car to him and i was to dissasemble my car and post the bits to him .

Firstly i thought it would save money and time driving to him , and secondly im not too sure which bits to take off , and thirdly i only have one blue key and to post it would be a bit mad i think ?

If he's reading this , or anyone knows him , can you ask him why i cant come to him ?

Or is there anyone else in the world who can reset the ecu and supply new keys ?

Okay everyone.

Don't give me a hard time as I am new here. I used to own a Regatta and a Strada many years ago and now I have bought a Fiat Punto convertable. It is on a 'M' plate.

The car came with only one blue key. This key is pretty worn but it does have a button for remote locking. There is a letter and three numbers stamped on the key. Obviously I shall need to get another blue as a spare but do I need a red one?

Great site and I guess I'm gonna be visiting here a lot in the near future.

Forgive me if I'm asking stupid questions or ones that have been asked elsewhere....

I only have a red key, and was unaware I should have two blue ones as well. Ordered two blue ones off ebay.

But am unsure about getting them cut...have heard Timpsons is the best. I have no idea what I'm talking about as regards to cutting keys and the like. Do I just ask to get two blues cut from the red or what? Don't want to go in and get them done wrong as I know its only £25 for the keys but being unemployed would rather not waste half a weeks money on useless keys.

If anyone one can help me I'd be really grateful, cheers
