General Red Key

General Red Key

Go to Fiat & they will cut 2 keys there & then in same profile as red key then programme them yourself, takes 30 seconds;)

Or shoe/key shop etc but prog them yourself.

I take it red key fits all locks?

I have this problem, i need the red key lol.
I brought a punto turbo where i have the central locking on the key but i have a blue 1.
the problem here is that the rubber button is fuc**d and it takes me like 20 mins to enter or lock my car im lucky if it takes me a faster time as its delocked i carnt the key to enter, if you have a red key keep it up safe as Fiat dealers want 800 pound for a new 1 as they do have to replace everything inc the ECU i know this as a fact as i contacte wolverhampton main dealer to discuss this matter lol

so yes the RED key is very important in my situation (lol)

yes i was talking to a m8 about doing that hehe
but i was just stating how important the red key is, and it resests the ECU brain to control mainly everything on the car eg: engine. if something was to happen :)

I am going to look/sound so stupid here but....

I have just bought a 1998 Punto S60 and it came with only one key.

How can I get a red key for this car and is it crucial I get one.
What problems will I encounter without the red key.

Never had a Fiat before but always wanted one but now I've bought the car I'm panicking I have no red key.

Thanksk guys - super forum - added to favourites already.

Whoever at Fiat decided that this red/blue key system was a good idea needs a good kick in the balls...

You don't need to worry about getting a red key. You may never need it. If you do then www.codeman.org can sort you out or there are other ways around it. Enjoy the car and don't worry about the red key.

I have also just bought a 1998 60S and I have the opposite problem, 1 red and no blue. It's all very confusing.

I've just had a blue key made up from my red master key today, cost £30 from timpsons...

Hi,

I own a 1995 Fiat punto 55 SX and i only have 1 blue key

The key has two circles with a triangle on it.

can you tell me if i should also have a red key? and also how do i get another blue key cut?

kind regards, Rich

I had fun and games years ago with my first Punto 55 S (mk1), bought new from the local fiat dealer back in 1995.
When I collected it the sales person drove it round to the front of the showroom for me and pointed out the usual things like indicators here, wipers there etc etc.
As the blue key was still in the ignition he handed me the spare blue & red key attached to a fiat key fob and told me the importance of the red key and to keep it safe etc.
So I put straight into my pocket & when I got home I put these spare keys safely in a kitchen draw as I didn't want to loose them.

One day after almost a year of happy ownership, I needed to get something out of the car but had left my set of house/car keys upstairs - being lazy & couldn't be bothered to run upstairs I grabbed the spare set from the kitchen draw.
It was only then that I found that neither of these keys fitted my car!!!!
Although they where both cut the same, they were very different to the one I had been using for the last year.

I contacted the dealership and explained the problem. They then tried to find the original missing keys but to no avail  , they also tried to find the security code from the vehicle VIN  , but in the end they had to order and fit a complete set of locks and new ECU (y) .

I had great pleasure :D in informing them that there will be another car out there somewhere with the same problem as mine – to the best of my knowledge they never found the other car.
Three years later a traded the car in for another Punto at the same dealership, as they remembered their costly mistake they made sure that the 3 keys were all the same and that they worked in all the locks…..

Re: red key

Helz , Do You Know Where I Can Get A Blue Key Cut For My Mark2 Elx 2001 , Fiat Want £126+ Vat , Seems Very Expensive , Any Help Would Be Good , Thanks

Omg So many people asking the same thing, and not one definite answer lol.
This thread keeps going because people all say different things and don't seem to completely explain things like "reprogram it your self...takes 30 seconds"
gr8 30 seconds....but i still don't know how the feck i do that, care to explain?
infact lets keep this simple

1. if u have a blue key but want a red one...press the X at the top right of the screen you DONT need a red key..stop worrying and go drive!

2. if you a red key and a blue key..see 1 and fob off

3. if u have only a red key then yes get a blue one as using only the red key resets you cars brain everytime you start her up so she will never learn anything! thats as much as i know...i'd luv to know

-Will the blue key (cut from the red) be able to open doors AND start car?
-if i buy from the web how do I introduce the blue keys and are they precut to fit the car. Will they in this case open bith doors and ignition?
-How much should buying from web...high street key cutters and fiat dealership each cost for this

Does ANYONE know!!???

Yes

If you buy them from the web, you will run a good risk of buying a pre-coded key...useless, they cant be re-coded.
So you go to a good keycutter take your key with you (red or blue) and they can cut and code a new blue key for you (they have the blank keys) It will then open both your doors and start your car (y)

As said before, i wouldnt buy from the web...and a keycutter will charge about £20-£30 quid :)

Just make sure when its being cut from a red, that they don't just clone the red and make you a red copy...causing your punto to lose her brain :D

Does ANYONE know!!???

Yes :p

I'd just like to add that I've read many posts on this. I bought a blue key from is it Timpsons?? because our existing blue key was working but battered and then we went through the process of 'programming' with the red key but it never worked..so now we have a nice blue key that only opens doors and does not start the ignition. What a complete waste of time and money.

For future Reference
I've got both blue keys and a Red one. One of the blue keys broke of of the key ring and was therefore useless as anything other than a top drawer emergency spare.

I now use an Alpha Romeo key thats been cut and programmed etc, I use it daily and have had no problems for the last 3+yrs, to me it's more comfortable and alot more durable than the original blue fiat keys (as silly as it sounds)
