Hey,

My partner has a 2006 fiat Punto. She's had her keys stolen.
Now going through the motions of sorting out the issue, first thing we've done is call a locksmith who has provided a key but can't program the key due to a problem with eeprom. They said it'd need to go to a dealer for a full lock change.
Dealer has quoted £500 for what I assume is just parts but it's a 7 week wait time for them to arrive.

Any other ways to get this sorted?

It doesn't need to go to a dealer to be fixed at that kind of price, someone knowledgeable with Fiat cars would be just fine.

You can get the code from a Fiat dealer, I think they are legally obliged to give you that for free or a nominal fee. Then give the code to an auto locksmith that knows how to code Fiat cars. He may have some gizmo to make a new blade.

When you have the code contact lots of auto locksmiths, because only a small fraction will be willing and able to sort this. They may ask you to buy a second hand barrel and keys and then do the coding.

Thank you I'll put some calls in tomorrow, appreciate the advice.

Hi, is this a 188 model,

The later 199 m grande stores the code on the ECU

My local key Place build a key and coded it for £50

BUT.. You will need the key profile too..
Maybe that can be obtained as a code from FIAT too

Ring a few established FIAT dealers.. As the price for an A4 printout changes massively £10 to £60 typically

Hi, looks like a 199,
A locksmith has cut a key but said he can't connect to the car due to EEPROM (forgive me as I'm relaying my partner's words, I wasn't present for the conversation) but basically he said he'd need to refer to his mate who'd charge £400 to sort the computer side out.

But I'll take what you and the person above has said and ring some dealers for the codes and some second opinions from locksmiths, fiat specialists.
