Sell the sol :D keep the cinq ,

I somehow doubt Mark would sell Eddie.

Mark I can understand why you want to sell, with everything that's been happening recently.
Roof- not much you can do about that, nature at it's best.
Breakins- without installing an extremy expensive alarm & putting a very heavy duty door on to prevent said breakins, there's not much you can do.

im in the process of beefing up the security in a non lethal fashion (yes i know booooo) but ill see how this turns out and we can maybe get something sorted with the garages im thinking about trying to hound the council for a power supply since there is power nearbye as we have lighting even a card meter or something so i can put a active webcam up so im always able to see it lol :)

as for the cinq it seems mark has the old 6 million dollar man fetish for it at the moment :D (WE CAN REBUILD HIM)

Mark the cento builder ...can he fix it... ?

can i f***

spent all afternoon on it, cleaned plugs up, lambda up, started....sweet as a nut...for 30 seconds, then it started misfiring again :(

ok, take 2, plugs cleaned, lambda cleaned...started sweet as a nut for 10 seconds, misfire. very, very smokey......,smoke cleared up, misfire stopped huzzah!!!!! one well running cinq engine :D ran like that for a good 5 minutes, so i switch off, start up again, perfect again :D a minute later......chug chug chug, pop bang chug......it's dropped cylinder 3 again :(

the persistant cleaning of 2 seems to have semi sorted it, can't get 3 running at all again, spark plug out, it's wet, seems to be oil

so....i lost my temper with it and ripped the head off

the thinking being the valve seals should be replaced anyway, and it would allow me to inspect the valves closely alyway.....so off popped the head........only takes a combination of 2 hose clips and 31 nuts and bolts :) seemed like more last time tbh

about 40 minutes later, head was off, the valves are coated in soot, cylinder 3 though, as was its spark plug, coated in an oil film

had a feel of the valves quickly before i left, not happy with the exhaust valve on 3, the back of it feels out of shape or covered in crap, the rest look ok,hopefully im close to having the exact problem pinned down and fixed tomorrow :)

i have news on the garage situ :) was speaking to the guy with the audi next door to mine, council arent even going to repair the garage roofs, they are just going to let them fall apart over time and go derelict :(

what the **** are we paying for then should let us have them for free

you wanting the valves from the spare engine as a few of them should be new since my bent valves incident :D and i should be semi early getting finished tommorow giving plenty of time to get them going again :D might even put the 17s on the corolla since i have tyres again

aye, just what i was saying today, we only pay for the maintenence of them really, if they aren't gonna maintain them then quite simply, i'm not paying :D everyone i spoke to up there today says they'll be witholding rent from now on, so it's looking a bit like a rebelion of garage folk :D :D :D

cool :) thanks yeah i'll grab a few valves then :D theres something funky going on with that one valve, not sure if it's just a fraction bent or what, looked straight but the back of it felt like it had been crushed and mis-shapen or something, all the rest seem fine from what i saw, didnt get as far as taking the valves out the head tho...time to re-launch that special method :D

i need to locate a head gasket kit fast though, i have valve seals but no HG(given i cant reuse the old one because it's a crush gasket)

Ha ha nice one James & like the responce there Mark.

update, had a proper look at valves today, exhaust on cyl 1's bucket was trapped, so seemingly a very small bend in the valve, cyl 3 one valve didnt look like it was seating properly and there was a suspicious mark in the pistons grime that suggests theres been minor contact beween the two

looks like it's just aswell i pulled the head.......

well we rippied the old 1.1 seicento engine from my car to use the lovely new valves that was put in mine and we found out something interesting on my old engine :D

cylinder 2 or 3 cant remember which the piston still looks brand new :D other 3 coated like normal but that one looks like its never fired a spark in its life :D guess thats why it was running like a bag of shite :D only 3 pistons working for some reason :D

but as for progress the cinq basically needs a couple of hours labour to be up again and of course the delivery of the new gaskets :D

the sei situation is bizzare  theres no apparent reason why it was only running on 3 cylinders, but it definitely was given the piston in there was so shiney and new it was factory fresh

i'll check over the valves on this head before fitting, but they all look spot on on first glance

new gaskets are on their way, could be here tomorrow, springs...i have a loan of some very short ones destined for the sei :D all is not lost yet, it's gonna be tight but theres a faint whisp of hope the cinq will be one the road soon :D

Strange..! The only explaination I can offer. Maybe the head gasket was gone, and leaking coolant into that cylinder then with the heat and compression, the coolant became like a jet wash to clean the piston...mmm.

Another way to check if your donar head is sound, is to upturn it and pour some fuel into dome, covering the valves. If valves are sealing, it should hold the fuel, it's a quick easy check...good luck!

when i got back, i reassembled the cinq

puzzler, it wont start........ timing spot on, getting spark and fuel, fuel pump is priming, spark plugs are clean and correctly gapped, all sensors reconnected, head correctly torqued down, valves all clean and moving freely on cam, all earths connected and clean, pulley correctly positioned on nipple

it's trying to start, does 2 turns on the starter then coughs and dies instantly, after 4 or 5 attempts like this, i get a backfire from the exhaust and seemingly from top end of engine, so somethings igniting unburnt fuel but not igniting it when it should be, or at least efficiently enough..

starting to wonder if james is right and my crank sensor has died too along with it's other grumbles

this car doesnt half p me off at times

hmm if ur getting spark and fuel ..... then i'd guess the tdc is fine ~~

You sure your timing is correct seeing you get a back fire from the exhaust from engine?

Ming

100% positive, timed about 10 FIRE 8v's in the past and never had this problem on any of them

timing was the first thing i checked, it's absolutely perfect, not even 1 tooth out!, shame, would have been a simple fix :(

I'm with Ming - sounds like the timing is out but that's not an engine I've worked on, unless it's the same as fitted to the original Panda in some way?
The only thing I can say from my own experience is that after rebuilding a moderately tweaked Lancia twincam and after refitting it to the car I thought the timing marks were spot on after re-assembly but (somehow) I got the timing wrong, it was out by (blush) almost 180 degrees. Burned three sets of points out too.... and also managed to set fire to a Policemans trousers with a spectacular backfire as I worked back to the right timing but that is, as they say, another story.

Are you getting an 'even' strong spark on all four cylinders?
