Anyone else had petrol smell, but only when starting from cold?

I had the rad replaced recently and the specialist told me that the exhaust manifold seal had gone on one side, but it 'closed up when warm'.

My thinking is that this would indeed give a minor petrol smell when the car is cold (unburnt fuel escaping from the exhaust manifold seal).

Is this common?

No idea which engine you have.. other than diesel..

Which sealing face..
Head to manifold (dissimilar materials)

Manifold to flexi
( more similar materials)

Vague fuel smell at winter cold start isnt too uncommon..

But if you can still smell it after 5 mins of running.. it wants attending to as a bigger priority.
