I'm old enough to remember Britain trying to join back in '63 & De gaulle blocking our entry for ten years. The Germans weren't very warming to us either. When we eventually joined we were labled the whining "Brits":D Our relationship with these countries have not really moved on that well believe it or not.
On paper originally a free market was a good idea, but as pointed out already the EU has become corrupt & more or less uncountable to anybody but themselves.

Immigration has never been on my radar either, infact quite the opposite, but I'm not going to go into that. I'm a proud Scot, but I'm also proud to be British. Obviously post code lottery plays a big/main part on how you view your situation & see things. If I was a young guy at the moment, I'd be pretty pissed off, but hey, it is what it is.


Unfortunately you don't have to be a genius to foresee some shouty times ahead regarding the Scottish question. I can only hope that the SNP do not drag as through the mire & put the voters through more...........Well that's another question for another time eh?........:)

Many, and many in answer to both of those. Counter point is many many countries have rich histories.

Unfortunately, while I appreciate our history, and understand it's rich, it still doesn't make me proud to be British. I wouldn't care if I lived here, Canada or somewhere in between. I understand we're a very well off country in the grand scheme of things, and am thankful for that. But I can assure you that does not equate to proud.
 
Made me smile today when I heard that Scotland might be able to block the exit, as it needs their parliamentary consent. But Scotland voted quite strongly to stay, so their parliament should not go against the will of the people and give such consent.
Sadly, this will probably be negotiated quietly, but it made me smile.

Apparently from what I've been reading around this, the U.K. Government has to allow Scotland to have a second referendum despite what Nicola Sturgeon is saying. In the past Scottish independence referendum, both Belgium and Spain said they would veto Scotland's membership of the Union.

Scotland placed a lot of emphasis on keeping the pound and the royal family, a element of the armed forces and so on, but this would not even be something they would negotiate with the U.K. out of the EU and Scotland trying to join the EU independently.

She has well and truly shot herself in the foot. On one hand she has the support of the people who want freedom from the UK and on the other hand she knows that the practicalities of independence at the moment are just not workable.

In the two referendums 2,000,000 scots voted to remain in the United Kingdom, while only 1,600,000 voted to remain in Europe. Which also upsets the balance.

Finally if the scots veto the uk leaving Europe, sturgeon faces never getting a shot at another Scottish referendum in the future as English Welsh and Irish politicians kick back at everything the SNP does
 
I voted remain....

And I've still unfollowed both the Independent and BBC as I'm sick of their scare tactics and my news feed was all OMG the sky is falling. I don't agree with the result but it's happened we need to move on and make the best of it not cry and whine.

The turnout in the younger age groups (18-35) was far lower than in the older age groups. If the young had bothered to turnout then you would probably have got a different result.
It does make you think though - if the EU is such a strong and fantastic thing, why has it taken just one member to express its wish to leave for so many massive cracks to appear in the brickwork?

Good news for big exporters such as Rolls Royce.Shares have risen very nicely. One man's cloud etc. The banking sector shares are dragging the markets down at present. Interesting to note that the Frankfurt and Paris markets are down about the same as ours. (FTSE / 100/ Dax).
 
Markets recovered a lot by lunchtime today, but it will be turbulent for a while. Once what the market sees as a greater risk than Brexit appears then they will turn their guns on that instead. The City is not about big brains and intellect - it is big egos and bookies and spivs in flashy suits. They are not rocket scientists.
By the way - love him or loathe him - for comedy value alone if nothing else, find Farage's speech today to the EU on iplayer. Priceless.
 
It's rare you'll lose money betting on England crashing and burning..

On that note I had a bet that the referendum would vote out...:p
