I thought that leave would win up until about 2 or 3 days before, then the polls changed from being pretty even to remain winning. The fact that the City were so convinced is the reason for such drama on Friday and Monday. It does make you wonder if they had polled anybody outside London for them to be so certain.

Travelling in a taxi in Bristol today, the driver had LBC on. The presenter stated that some research had suggested that a lot of people thought that a vote for leave was to force current immigrants to leave. The next caller said that's what she thought.
When you ask the people to vote, it might be a very good idea to spell out, very clearly what the options are, and what the results would look like. Oops!

One of my friends voted because they thought terrorism wouldn't happen anymore. Yep.
I think regardless of which way people voted, the facts should have been made clear from the get-go, and any incorrect ones should have been called out. I was thrown one morning when had a "EU Fact Leaflet" through, started reading it, and only twigged something was off when I read phrases like "prop up the Euro". I looked and in tiny size 6ish font, was "VOTE LEAVE", and the address.
I think facts are facts and should be presented as such.
Even now, after it's all happened, there's still statistics and all sorts I'm hearing batted around, and I'm actually more confused now than I was prior to voting.
there were no facts only opinions lies and reckoning on both sides, but from what we are seeing reported now a lot of the country seems to have not listened to any side and just voted from facebook memes from the likes of britian first ukip and other ****** groups.

come on we are not all stupid and we did not all vote leave because of what the press and each side said would happen a lot of us voted because we can see just what the EU is heading towards and that is not where i want to go thanks i want the UK to work with the world not be ruled by an EU superstate

Obviously there is a mixed bag of voters, but when it comes down to it, for a number of years now the leave voters were fed up with government not listening to them, whether it was immigration, lack of real jobs, less well off being taxed too much, the unfair bedroom tax. What ever they thought in their wee part of Britian.....in all seriousness the list goes on & on.

I have been following tis very closely this week.
Farage took a lot of flak from the Euro MEP's (all except a handful who actually clapped him). They accused him of using Nazi propaganda tactics and lying. So when he got his turn he gave them some back! But I agree saying that hardly any of them had ever had a proper job, or created a job probably wan't helpful.
The ones who are taking the hardest line and talking tough are all the ones who are faced with a threat at home of their electorate wanting to leave - hence they are making it sound impossible. I think we will have to call their bluff eventually and just say that we will walk away from the single market if it means that we still have to follow the main principles of membership. We can still have access to it, possibly with some tariffs, but not be full members of it.
Apparently Cameron, whilst playing the immigration issue down before the referendum told the MEPs and Juncker last night that it was their fault that the result went the way it did because they are not realising the strength of feeling about mass immigration. They say that it cuts both ways and that UK citizens can live elsewhere in Europe and that it only affects 5% of the poluplation of Europe. But the estimates are that we have about 1m Brits scattered all over Europe, but there are about 3M Europeans (guesswork) in the UK.
I am sure that with the opt out that we already had negotiated on being part of any closer union, plus some sort of meaningful brake on the overall numbers, the result would have been different. Germany had the good sens to limit numbers when the EU was enlarged to include Poland etc. but Blair / Brown/Straw/Blunkett did not see the need, hence they estimated 15000 in one year, and we got about 20 times that in the first year!
Anyway, it is what it is and we have to make the most of it. And the FTSE 100 is back at the level it was at the start of last week, and the FTSE 250 just a bit down. The £STG is down against the dollar, but then it was probably a bit high for our exporters anyway.
And what about Corbyn? What a k***. He must have a very thick skin or a very thick head. Or both!

There is only one thing I want to say: I'm ashamed to be British. Ashamed that the majority of the country will listen to non-entities like Johnson and Gove and pay any attention to the (quasi) fascist Farage. The rise of the Right is here! That particular genie can't be put back into the bottle. All other problems we can work around (economy, immigration, sovereignty...), but once nationalism rears its ugly head - its goodbye to tolerance, free thinking, diversity. We have lost much more than just a membership in the EU. Way to go Britain!

I voted out. Nothing to do with scaremongering or Daily Mail bullcrap about immigration. The whole campaign was aimed at securing a stay vote. Both sides. The silly woman who came up with £350,000,000 for a start, when that failed getting "Barking" Boris Johnson to spearhead the leave side (who else could fellow Etonian, Tory and Oxbridge career politician David Cameron find with less credibility than him?) and letting Nigel Farage off the leach so anyone voting to leave would be tarred with the same brush of bigotry.
All aimed at manipulating the people to vote "stay".
Seventy something businesses (with offices all over Europe) said we should stay; a dozen or so said leave.
Fourteen prominent scientists said stay but only one said leave. Maybe that one scientist should have said...
"The EU Emperor has no clothes on".
The British public are not as easily-led as you seem to think.
They voted the way they did because they thought (rightly or wrongly) that it was the right thing to do for them and the country.
Before every election we have weeks of campaigning by both sides, and endless speeches, but in nearly every case they change the vote of just a tiny minority. The majority had made their mind up well before, and I think this referendum would have been the same.
i did not vote out because of anything Farage said i hate the **** and wish he wasn't on the out side. it was the people saying stay in who where known liers who have stitched us up so many times that stopped me voting to remain.

Exactly, the electorate are more savvy these days, far more information out there. Don't be fooled by the media.
Read a couple of interesting things today about the vote and the psychology of the outcome.
In breaking down the voting numbers by age group, the 18-25 year old group had by a considerable amount the lowest turnout to vote, but this is the age group most upset by the outcome, had more of them turned out then the vote could have easily gone the otherwise.
The discussion around this was that this age group are the quickest to hit Facebook and social media ranting keyboard warriors, but when it comes to going out and voting this was often seen as too big an inconvenience. With Glastonbury on and universities having broken up for summer this age group also had other things on there minds.
Another article looked at the reaction and likened it to the process people go through when grieving. Calling for another referendum, insisting London should become independent of the rest of the U.K. We're all used as examples of denial and bargaining.
They also looked at how when you feel you're a good person and doing something you feel is for the good of the country and people as a whole, it shakes your belief system and core values to find out more than half the population don't agree with you.
They advised at the end of this article these people should be allowed to continue the grieving process until they achieve acceptance.

I must admit, I think the attitude shown to the older voters who ticked the leave box is awful: they're accused of taking youngsters futures away from them, but do the remain campaigners actually stop to think about the fact that these older people saw Britain before the beginning of the EU, and over the years, they have watched the country change as a result of EU membership? Just an interesting thought to ponder...
The low turnout by the 18-25s seems to have been overlooked when it is easier just to blame "old people" who voted as they did not out of any motivation to hurt the young. In fact the opposite is true in that they believe they are protecting our country from further Euro integration.
I must admit to feeling very let down by Boris though. Seems he doesn't have the stomach for the fight. Right now we need Westminster to calm down on both sides and just get on with the job in hand!

Boris has had a talking to from the the powers that be in the party I suspect. It's obvious by the tone of the country (for me anyway) that although he's not as daft as he looks & he plays the political game, he just wouldn't suit stepping into the PM's shoes. I reckon he's a long hard think & a look around & came to the conclusion that this is in the interest of the party.
As for the young vote, although nowadays the young team are pretty well informed/on the ball regarding political matters, I've witnessed this trend of not bothering to use their vote for a number of years now by some.
Just remembered his name...Russell Brand, remember when he stuck his nose in, regarding the young vote. I'm sure there were some who saw through his nonsense advertising ploy, but some were easily led.

Boris is a very clever bloke, and he has a good sense of humour and a great personality which is pretty much unique in political terms. But he always needs some more solid performers around him to get the details sorted. Russell Brand - where to start? To think that on this centenary day of the Somme that all those boys died so that people like Brand can have the freedom to speak his nonsense to anybody daft enough to listen. He is an unfunny dangerous hypocrite. Goodness knows what Katy Perry was thinking!
i think Boris going and his mate stepping in are a plan by both out them, Boris wont get the respect he needs from the eu or his own party, so he has got his mate to step in but will get to be deputy or another good job if he wins
Well if the papers are to be believed gove screwed Boris over by telling him he wouldn't support his bid to be PM, to be honest it seems like there is lots of political positioning going on, Boris had a huge amount of support form the party and public, but doesn't want to be blamed for the fall out from the brexit and my not get the respect from the EU. So May will win and handle the negotiations. For the next election Boris will run and likely win, may will get a good position as will gove and this will allow them to defeat any risk from the Labour Party who seem to have completely fallen apart.
Eventually Boris is likely to be PM it's just now is not the right time for him, he can then pin the failures of anything to do with the Brexix on Cameron and May will survive as she was just picking up the pieces. Gove is there to put on a show at the moment
