General Hillclimbing and Sprinting the 100hp

Neil,

All depends on which series / championship you want to run in. Many have slightly different regs and these affect the standard classes and what you can do to the car. What are the venues you're thinking about?

Tyre regs. Again, each series may have different requirements. List 1A is standard road tyres and 1B is track day type tyres. Some series only allow 1A, others both. Details in the link below.

Cheers Dan,

As I live, currently about 5 miles from curbrough, sorry about the spelling, I think a join up with the Shenstone and district car club is in order as a first step. In the mean time I need to get to know the car, which is going to be fun!

And that's why we have one of these!

I've done Curborough in mine. Don't be fooled by the size of the track; it's very difficult to master and it's harsh on your tyres in the dry. You'll want to keep an eye on your tyre pressures as they will rise rapidly. Your front nearside tyre will take most of the abuse, especially on the last corner.

If you can afford to do so I'd buy some track tyres. I used Uniroyal Rainsports and they did okay but they go off pretty quick. I'm thinking of buying some Nankang NSR2 from Camskill (195/50/15) as they're cheap and get good reviews. The standard brakes held up fine but for a proper track day I would upgrade.

She has F1s all around.

I picked her up on Friday evening and yes I can tell there is some sliding at the front, but it's very safe in feel.

Overall really good fun.

A fine purchase! Should all be predictable and safe. I've used vredestein sportrac 3s for the last three years and very happy (use on a decent commute). Now replaced by sportrac 5s, so that's probably the next set.

Yokohama AD08s are the best list 1a tyre and available in 195/50/15..

Will be joining you sprinting and hill climbing a 100hp. Have entered the mighty Panda in the three sisters and Aintree sprints next weekend, class SA
Roadgoing Production Standard Saloon & Sporstcars up to 1400cc. Am slightly concerned on a number of fronts:
1.have never competed in a FWD car before
2.long time since I competed on road tyres and these are of the hong kong, ping pong gone wrong variety
3.it's my daughters car
4.I've not told her...:(

What a guy! :worship:

On the tyres front, I wouldn't run with them. Go on www.camskill.co.uk and buy four Uniroyal Rainsport 2 in 195/50/15. They're £33 each and are an excellent tyre. If it rains you'll have am advantage over the competition but even in be dry they're really good.

Good luck :)

Have a great time at Aintree.. shame it's so far away. As above, I'd use it as an excuse to get decent tyres on the car.

I'm off to Wiscombe next Saturday, and then going to enter the Pegaus Sprint at Castle Combe on 19th October.

Just for fun Evo have just completed some tyres testing on 17s they reckon on the P0's
Not sure how many miles you would get? However good to see your tyres Dan did well.

How much is it to do the event at 3sisters or aintree? And what are the times etc? I. Might pop down

Thanks for the encouragement. Was planning to stick with the tyres I have but just checked and they don't appear in the MSA permitted list 1A tyres so will have to change them. Are the Uniroyals better than the Yokohama AD08?

Regarding cost, entry was about £100 for each event, I do maybe 14-15 a year and am entered in both the longton and district motor club and the Liverpool and Chester speed championships, quite often a round counts for both championships, next weekend being a case in point, both events count for both championships. Each championship costs about £20 to enter and club membership is about the same. 10 best scores count, there are 20 rounds you can enter. A years motor sport in something like the Panda should be about £2K max and if you do well you could win £100 back in prize money at the end of the season! Class course records at 3 sisters and Aintree are held by a 106 rallye, which is probably the best choice for the class. Don't go to Aintree to spectate, it's a terrible venue for spectating and the 100hp will be dire, too fast a course for it, although I'm the only entry in the class so guaranteed the class win! 3 sisters is much better to spectate at and the Panda should go okay.

And just to add...

Whilst you don't need to change the car at all, you do need some personal safety kit and a MSA licence. So there's quite an initial outlay, but can be limited by buying wisely.

1. Licence is about £40 (and no medical is needed for a non-race one).
2. Helmet will be £150 upwards - always buy new, it must meet the MSA regs and make sure it fits perfectly. It you're lucky, a cheaper one will!
3. Overalls. You now need nomex overalls which meet the FIA / MSA standards. I bought an unused (still had the price tag on it) £350 suit on ebay for £100.
4 Gloves. You now need fireproof gloves and applies to all competitors. Will be £30 upwards.

Good points Dan. Would say the kit lasts a long time. In the 9 years I've been competing I'm still on my original helmet and 2nd set of overalls, gloves and boots.

I need two towing eyes, any idea where I get them and size I need?
