Should have my Caterham race car repaired by start of 2014 and will probably go back circuit racing, but might do some double drives with my daughter or son if they want.

If you ever get up to somewhere like Loton let me know.

Robbie, was the Ford Ka you were up against a standard Ka or a SportKa? My wife has a StreetKa, which is the convertible but shares the 1.6 engine with the SportKa and to be honest it's pretty quick, it has a very grunty, torquey engine and decent handing/grip, it just looks like a hairdresser's car!

Competed at the Castle Combe Pegasus sprint today, variable conditions and pretty tricky.. Started wet (and I was sort of competitive) but as it dried the competition got quicker. Ended fifth behind 3 fast minis and a swift gti. But not the slowest by a long way.

Pondering sticky tyres for 2014....

You can get r888 and ad08 quite cheap used as a few cars use 195 55 15, particularly Clio 1*2s with aftermarket wheels. Even new they're not too expensive. There's a new tyre called Syron Streetrace that gets good reviews and is pretty cheap as well as Nankang rsr2 (something like that).

Hi Dan,
I didn't get a chance to chat yesterday; I've got the Marbella which I modified at avon rise...looked like you had a good last run. You didn't fancy having a go at boating on the last run then? Got a bonus parade lap as well!! :slayer:

What sort of times did you get? I forgot to have a look before going home but I was a bit scatty after the crash. 3rd run was an incredible improvement though. A completely different track! I got ~105 secs.

Didn't see your Avon Rise incident, all ok?

My second run was one of the last "dry" ones. I got a bonus run as they mess up the timing, just did it in time. Times through the day went P1 - 116 secs, P2 - 111 secs, T1 - 102 secs and T2 - 100.35 secs. That was trying quite hard!

All times are available here:

Ah nice one, I didn't realise the times get put up that quick on the website. 100 seconds is a nice time...I've got my target for next time then

The car will live; I think I got off lightly but I will have to try to source a new bumper / grille / headlight and hopefully straighten out the wing / front panel (when the body jack I ordered arrives ). parts are not going to be easy to source though. I thought mk1 panda parts were rare...but no one keeps marbella bits it seems!!

I put up pictures and video here but unfortunately nothing of the crash except the aftermath!...

Here's a re-enactment of the audio from inside the car though:

Anyway, I didn't die, the car didn't die and I got a full days competition; lucky to get away with it really. Gained a great deal of respect for combe in damp conditions as well...oil spills reeeeally didn't help either. I am hoping repairs will be quick but depends on parts availabilty

Anyway, I'll come over and chat next time I promise! Great to see Panda'ry things on the track I think

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit

What was the wet grip of tbe AD08's like?

When i got them initially i thought it wasn't gonna be very good, my god i was wrong. They were at least, if not more, grippy in the wet than the toyo t1r's i was running previously.

They also had more what i'd call bite than the toyo's. Turn in response was increased massively and also felt a lot more accurate.

Also what people say about them needing to be warmed up was also nonsense, they were superb even from cold

Reply to Marbella post...

Ah, that's not good. I did see a black car going hard left over Avon Rise quite early in the day (was watching from the paddock) and was surprised to see the car carry on given speed and trajectory.. Were you braking over Avon Rise? If so, that's caught out many. I've marshalled at Combe for twenty years and it always ends the same way... Hope you find the parts ok over the winter.

I did have a walk around the paddock but never found the Marbella, I guess you were lining up for runs at the time.

Very tempting! Might do this in the spring when the Sportrac's are shredded...

Thanks, I'll have it fixed up ok. But yes, I broke just before avon rise I think. and only a light brake to check what the grip was like...apparently that was enough. After hitting the wall I sat there for a little bit waiting for the steam but radiator was ok so carried on carefully not knowing if any suspension stuff was damaged and keeping a good eye on the temp gauge! Being my first track accident I sort of didn't know the procedure.

Ended the year with an afternoon at Goodwood. Amazing circuit and very very fast. Took me a while to build courage! Some video of the Panda at work.. it really is great for track work.

http://youtu.be/tYlu58NfvcQ

Kept a Mini Cooper S and Clio 182 honest in the last session.. they didn't believe the car was "stock" and everyone thinks the car is 4x4..

That does look fast. glad you have shown some of the more traditional hot hatches what the little Panda can do.

I did my first track day of the year yesterday at Curborough. Not strictly a trackday but you are competing against the clock.

This was a poor lap but the only one I filmed. Fastest lap of the day was a 172 Cup which did a 1:34.0, my best was a 1:39.6. Only my second time on track so I'm quite happy.

Looks fun.. always fancied a go at Curborough. Must get up there.

Spent today at Brands Hatch. Quite entertaining this morning when it was slippery and got some good dry running this afternoon. My Sportrac tyres are now history...
