a guy on the Simpsons who lost an eye in Haiti when drinking a Mai tai and forgetting to take the little parasol out. When will people learn the dangers of parasols in drinks?

Oh be nice! :p

liquid nitrogen use in food prep ingredients needs to be banned or better controlled that's for sure.
not sure if she was told not to drink for a few seconds, was that in the news or just a members guess? how would you time it?
I'm not sure that's right - if it's for prepping the food - then there's unlikely to be any troubles with it.

As long as once the food is prepared, it's safe - then no problems.

I mean - raw chicken is unsafe, but once cooked - it's fine.

The whole "adverse" reaction thing is quite ambiguous though. I mean, if the LN had totally dissipated, how could she have a reaction to it?

So the question is, before we can speculate any more - is did the LN get into her stomach, and if so, was it supposed to, or was that an error somewhere....

Reaction is the correct term TBH. Cold isn't deadly normally, but if your goolies are exposed to it for a long enough duration they'll drop off :p

Stomach probably suffered cold burns.

True, I guess when I think of reaction I think of chemical reaction which this wasn't as nitrogen is inert :)

This last post sums all the above up
Those of you who don't know truly knows in detail why the girl's stomach became perforated, please stay. The rest of you go home.
Those of you who know exactly how to safely prepare a drink using LN stay. The rest of you go home.
Ok, anybody left?
Thought not.

Well I'm sorry for clarifying my position  Perhaps I should have just been a **** and argued with MEP when I'd said something which was wrong/ambiguous as others on here seem to do :)

What happens when a liquid turns to a gas? (think of the rate of expansion of LPG which can expand 300% from liquid to gas)

Coupled with the cold causing ebrittlement due to freezing of cells (which contain water).........

it is inert Air is 70>80% Nitrogen ;) but in a cool form anything below 0^C is going to cause serious damage to the human body which is mainly water.....
