Technical Gear selection problem

Thanks everyone I’ve sorted it I got the wife to move the gear knob while I lifted the gear selector out an it’s engaged again I have all gears appreciate the help an use taking time out to reply 🙂

Good day. Newbie here, so please handle with care.
Bought a real grafter of a little Panda due to circumstances.
Struggling with gears selection and came across this post.
Now here is the issue
Lots of play in gearshift end 4th is where reverse should be about.
There is No 13mm bolt on mine. Looks like it was welded.
So currently having to drive in 1st, 2nd and 4th only
Sometimes with lots of grinding it will engage 3rd.
New gearbox? Or can it be fixed?
Thanks guys

Let's try and isolate the problem

And see if I understand the problem correctly

Does the gear stick feel right moving up and down, but sloppy left to right

Does it feel any different if you try and select any gears with the engine off

Is there someone that can help you while they move the gearstick you watch in the engine bay

Any recent worry done on the gearbox or clutch to your knowledge

Has the problem suddenly happened or gradually got worse

If you can post a photo of the weld, it's pretty easy to do if you have a smart phone, just click on the button at the bottom of a post "attach files"

Hi Koalar
Thanks for response.
No I bought it like this and I do believe the previous owner had someone tinker or rather butcher some on the car.
Up and down feels normal except for fact that not going into 3rd. Grinding and every now and again it would engage. The feeling on shifter is almost as if the whole shifter is too much to the right. 1st is in middle.
Wife will be home later for assistance.
I have looked at the post with photo of said 13mm to assist in this, but it's clean off on that flat piece where it's suppose to be. Almost like welded and then grinded off.
When in gear the lever has movement of about 8 cm to left and right

Great,

See if we can get a photo of the weld posted

There is some adjustment left to right in the some of the cables

But first we need to check nothing is loose on the gearbox

Make sure this plate isn't moving, get someone to move the gearstick or check these three bolts. Is no unknown for them to be left loose after a clutch change

Also the clips holding the cables to it are present

Odds favour a snapped cable though as very common
