I'm experiencing some occasional juddering when pulling away in first gear, especially from a cold start. Sometimes 1st gear and reverse can also be difficult to select.
2008 1.2 dynamic at 78k miles, could it be time for clutch replacement?

Always possible re clutch, but generally when worn they get softer action so less likely to judder, unless oil has got into it.
It is a judder and not a clonk as in the bottom gearbox mount worn which will give a jolt as you go on and off the accelerator without even touching the clutch.
Re actually going into the gear, if easy with engine off, but harder with engine running it can be a clutch hydraulics.

We need to work out from several possibly

Engine/gearbox suspension/mount problem
Engine running issue, i.e. head gasket, 3 cylinders
Gearbox input shaft problem
Distortion or contamination of the flywheel
Clutch itself in my opinion rare for this
Front suspension arms

Probably something's I missed

Try backing up a slope is it worse, normally gearbox mount, rarely effects 1st though

If you raise the revs and drop the clutch more quickly, does it go away, gearbox or engine

Oil inside the inspection hole input shaft bearing, or crankshaft seal

It's a matter of elimination now

The wheels will move quite a lot when power is first put down. If your car is not tram lining on motorway overbanding its probably normal.

Clutch action should feel smooth and even from top to bottom. When it goes hard "half" way down, you are probably looking at needing a new clutch. Eventually you can't release the clutch at all.

In my experience, clutch judder is almost always oil contamination on the friction plate.
