Wotcha!

Pulled away from the lights.
1st into 2nd, no problem.
Get into 3rd and everything goes funky.

Limped it home, about 2mins away, in 3rd slipping the clutch a fair bit.

Gear stick is loose, only moves between position 3 and 4, regardless of clutch position.

Clutch works as expected.

There's a local place I'm going to call tomorrow, hoping I can limp it there.

How screwed do you reckon I am?

Assuming cable snapped as @koalar mentions it is possible If you fiddle around a bit with the selector arms on the gearbox to engage a lower gear for the drive to garage so saving clutch, as long as you don't find fifth or reverse.:)
I replaced the gear cables on my 1.6 Fiat Doblo, it does involve car on stands, heat shield off exhaust, gear lever centre consul removed , plus battery to access, so easiest for your garage to do if you don't have the tools etc.

Cheers for the info, I'm leaning towards it being cables or selector joint aswell.

I've worked on my own motorbikes for years, I'm confident enough to fix this myself except I don't have the space to lift the car up enough.

Fingers crossed it is a simple fix and it's not going to cost a bomb to fix.

I'll let y'all know what the local grease monkey says.

Cheers again and much love, boyos.

It is straight forward enough with hand tools, jack and axle stands, but easiest with a ramp.
Ball joint if worn can jump off under bonnet as suggested but most common is the cable end breaking off just past the ball joint.:(

Can be done on ramps

There's only the grommet though the chassis that has to be done from underneath, the rest is from on top of inside the car

You can just see the selector levers at the back of the battery

This one selects the forward and backward motion of the gear stick

It will be more than likely stuck in one direction, and the gearstick having no effect

You can just about reach you hand in

If you move it to the vertical (neutral) and then the other direction the gearbox will be in second, only do this absolutely necessary

3rd is probably the best if it's reasonably flat and not too much traffic

It will require the gearstick to be held to the right from inside the car before move the lever back to its original position to select 3rd , so a pain

Here's mine selecting 1st and second
