I think I have found a answer car was starting very bad after 3 sets of plugs no change the glow plug warning came on for the 4th time so called shop for parts and got some genuine fiat glow plugs not the ngk or other I had 3 sets of ngk no change ask fiat to fit but I will supply however I this it I got fiat plugs 62.00 delivered and fitted them my self however upon taking the old ones out I am 100% sure fiat never changed them and they are different to the fiat ones so new ones fitted left over night started this morning and as far as I can tell massive difference try fiat plug from shop4parts

Interesting.... I know mine have been changed twice and not made a difference, no idea what sort they are though, might be worth a try... Does it start ok first time with no 'chugging'?! Awesome if you've solved your problem!

Yeah nothing like how it used to start miles better either fit them your self or get a good garage to do it make sure you get the fiat Bosch ones tho most garages use cheaper parts to keep cost down for customers but they will fit what you supply if you like mines was sometime really bad it is how it should be as of yet only changed them yesterday day time not really driven the car today but started it to see thismorning and went first turn ;-) try it only 62.00 delivered from shop 4 parts good luck

Yeah still fantastic I give it a few seconds after the heater lights goes out seems to help rather then going right away I spent loads trying to find out what it was and cant believe it was something some simple

Hi sO I am wondering is this is till working OK. I have fitted the Bosch glow plugs, and a new relay, but the glow plugs only heat for about 1 second, when the car is cold for the first start each day, and even less for subsequent starts. I have a new cold start sensor which I will try, and maybe a new battery. the car runs fine, but starting it is very hard. I also cleaned the EGR valve when I did the glow plugs, since it's much easier to do them with the EGR removed.

thanks,
Russ.

Could be the battery, mine struggled to start when cold for months till I bought a new battery now it's fine

Hi All,
mine is definitely something to do with the control of the glow plugs. I disconnected the cold start sensor. The glow plugs heated for about 8 seconds, and the car started straight away, but check engine light was on, and thermo fans were running. I the replaced the cold start sensor, and plugged it in and The glow plugs heated for < 1 second. So I am a bit stumped. I now have new glow pluds, new relay, new cold start sensor, and I can get it to work fine, if I disconnected the cold start sensor, otherwise I takes 2 minutes to start.

any ideas ?

Russ.
