Hi everyone,

I'm planning to remove the alternator on my 2006 Fiat Grande Punto 1.9 JTD (96kW), which has the Z19DTH engine (same as Opel Astra/Zafira 1.9 CDTI 150).

The alternator is completely down, not charging (only 12.3V on B+ while engine running), and I've already tested the exciter wire (no voltage, tried manual excitation – still no charge), so it's definitely the alternator itself.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to access and remove it
If anyone did it already, and have some guidance i will be thankfull
Thanks

Hi, I removed it from above, but it was quite difficult to remove, as it requires a lot of force. First, remove the EGR, make some space, and remove as many things as possible.

If you use the Opel one, it will have a cable to activate the charge, that is, one of the poles. You must connect it to the battery using a fuse holder, because if you don't connect that cable to +12V, it won't charge.

My Fiat didn't have that cable. I used a salvaged Zafira alternator, and I had to install that cable.

Although your post is old, I've seen it, and in case it helps you or other colleagues.

It's possible to remove the alternator from above, between the intake and the chassis, but you have to make some space, and it's difficult. Inserting it is easier.
