  • black M-Jet alloys (hopefully if insurance allows)
When I phoned up my insurance company (Direct Line, but I hear most insurers are the same in regards to alloy wheels) for details on getting insured on alloy wheels; they said that any alloy wheels made by the Fiat manufacturer don't need to be declared therefore won't put my premium up.

However, they said that aftermarket alloy wheels did need to be declared. So you should be fine on the insurance with M-Jet wheels. (y)

they shouldn't need to be declared..no, as they are a fiat extra in a sence. but i would still personally ring and double check tbh

Just tell your mum that they're a Fiat optional extra and don't need declaring as willieboy said. Failing that, just buy the wheels then take the car up to a garage and get them fitted.

Once they're on the car there isn't much your mum can do anyway!

ok thanks john ill look into that(y)

as was moved here are my plans are now :

  • finish painting my badges
  • merkur grill set (possibly)
  • black M-Jet alloys (hopefully if insurance allows)
  • purple calipers
  • eibach sportlines (only after wheels mind)
  • tints (possibly)
  • re do my interior light and footwell leds (not bright enough)
  • possibly a ragazzon backbox
at the current point in time thats it. i dont see the point in mapping a 1.2 ill hold onto the cash for some future plans

Errmmm......... Josh? Let me fill you in on something.......What Carl continualy forgets to mention when he talks about all the plans he has is the fact that the car BELONGS to his Mum. She bought it, she taxes it, she insures it and no doubt pays for the petrol that goes in it. So if Mrs Dawson says her son isnt having alloys,(or anything else for that matter) he ISNT having alloys! :D

here we go again.

your missing a few technicalities there sledge.

  1. the car was bought for me. ye the paper work says it legally belongs to my ma but is not used by hre and is in fact mine.
  2. yes she does pay for the insurance tax and fuel at the current point in time (she is funding me untill i complete my college course)
  3. i pay any difference in insurance due to modifications (no difference in cost yet)
  4. i am allowed any mods as long as they are declareable and if they increase the cost of insurance i pay the difference
  5. i am allowed mods if i pay for the mods themselves including fitting or if i fit them myself.
and the big one 6. the only reason i dont have any alloys is my ma was convinced that they would be uninsureable.

Carl, Carl, Carl........... The story changes all the time. A few weeks ago you made a claim that the car would be "signed over to you" when you could afford to run it......has everything changed yet AGAIN?? .....or did you forget what you said at the time.

You cant afford to run that car on your own for the simple reason you cant afford too, let alone pay for any serious mods. If you cant afford so much as a tankful of petrol how are you going to pay for everything on the wishlist?

If you were to put as much effort into finding a source of income as you do on dreaming about what you are going to do to it, you would be halfway there.

NOTHING is going to happen until you find a job and we both know it.

I thought Carl was at college - not just sitting at home not doing anything. Why the need to rush out and get a job, he's 17  Im sure lots of peoples parents help them when they first start driving...So what? And why the need to make replies like this to almost every single post Carl makes  As has been said before, if you don't like what he says, just add him to your ignore list. Simple.

Maybe I'm just thick but it seems to me like you follow him around saying these things.

EDIT: Carl I like your purple side strips. I thought they would look rubbish but actually they look very good. Well done (y)

no sledge the story hasnt changed and i find it inappropriate to go into a lot of detail about my finances.

however i cannot afford to fuel the car (although at the current point i can if needs be)

the car will be signed over to me when i am capable of paying for all the running costs.

for the record i have payed for all my mods. and as i apparently need to prove this here is a tally of costs (inc postage):

brakelight cover - £3.74
red badges- £25 for the pair
repair - £399.96 inc vat
sidestripes - £17.99
sidelight bulbs - £3.94
inidcator bulbs - £11.90
footwell leds - £15.46
aux adapter - £16.98
bootlight - £6.20
purple brake paint - £23.95
interior bulb - £3.99
black brake paint - £18.28
GSR - £90
cleaning materials - £87.37
black paint for badges - already had but would cost £3.99
lacquer - £8.07

total - £756.75

i still have another £8 to fork out tomorrow and it will take about £1000 to complete the rest of my mods

Don't talk about them on the forum then ffs.

Im with A1ant I quite like the stripes. But ffs leave it alone dont let it look like another halfords sponsored teen wagon.

when i said im not willing to talk about my finances i was refering more to what is about to be spent and what i have rather than what has already been spent as this coud be worked out anyhow.

and thankyou chris it is nice to hear people say they like them.

im not going ott dont worry.

Nowt wrong with parents helping my dads helped me loads but despite as carl puts it me being from "a rich background" i worked 2 jobs while i was full time at college to fund petrol, mods etc for my car. I worked every night and normally all weekend aswell.

im funding mine by selling my old possessions that i no longer need or want. or by working for my parents to earn some cash (things like washing my moms car vacuuming etc), with my savings and with the money i am given for birthday presents and christmas presents. also all the driving done in the punto currently is me driving my mum around and me driving to my work experience due to no alternative method.

and the current fuel costs are approx £40 per 6 weeks.

so contrary to popular belief with the exception of one journey a week, the original cost of the car and my insurance since last from february 2007-2010 i am not a freeloader and although perhaps through some strange methods have payed my own way.

:yeahthat: Sorry Carl, I got my first job on my 16th birthday while doing GCSE and then A levels. I have worked ever since, even at uni.

Good on you for setting your sights a little lower, but I personally would concentrate on running the car (ie. petrol) before you start looking at serious mods.....

yes you're right first time drivers will get some financial help from their parents but if was buying my son (i dont have one:p) petrol/tax/insurance and he was spending £750+ on mods would you not think hang on why am i forking out for essentials so he can waste his money on things that don't need to be done?

plus if i was the son I dont think it would feel right.

why the **** are you still declaring items like these as mods?

A repair for christ sake, that isnt a mod, thats an essential.

Ive had a bag of grit in my boot for last couple of days. Is this a mod? Just bought an ice scraper. Is this a mod? i plugged my tomtom in the other day to get me somewhere. I dont keep it in car but fixed it to windscreen. Is this a mod?

Half of those listed above are complete crap, no one declares a bootlight as a mod.

Costs-especially the repair and 'wouldve cost £3.99 if i didnt have it' etc should be disregarded from your list

Its nearer £350 mikeee as £399.96 of that is for the repair work after i pranged it.Plus people always find something to moan about even if they know nothing about you. Also all that cash was either saved from my paper rounds, made by selling stuff or earned by doing chores.

yes ok the repair is an essential and it would have been more accurate to just say this is a table of costs so far.

on your basis the current costs are: £247.17

total costs (mods, essentials and general costs) are: £756.75

anyhow. the black has finally cured on my grill badge so will take the masking tape off and get some pics. the model shop wasn't open yesterday but ill get the rest of my paint sometime this week.

Badge minus masking:

IMG_0060.JPG

my masking wasn't perfect so i did have some bleeding so im sanding off where it has bled. as you can see i also managed to scratch the black over the chrome surround slightly with the scalpel whilst removing the masking but this can be airbrushed out later.
all in all for a first attempt im quite pleased. now all i need to do is mask off the black so i can paint the purple later this week and then air brush out any scratches etc and then give a good ten coats or so of lacquer.
