What's made you smile today?

What's made you smile today?

The flats across the road from us have a large community refuse bin which is emptied every Sunday morning. The council depot used to be only about a 5 minute journey down the road from us so I think we were about the first collection because we would be woken early by it every Sunday morning - quite annoying really.

A wee while ago they closed that depot and collections moved to a more acceptable mid/late morning slot. The lorry stops right outside our living room window whilst the collection is taking place so we can't miss seeing it whilst munching our weekend Weetabix. Two weeks ago I was excited to see what is on the side of the lorry but couldn't get a photo before they disappeared up the road. This week I was ready!

So what did I see that so amused me? Get ready for this folks! one, two, three:

Wonder why they chose a 500? I'll try to find out more and if I find anything of interest I'll let you all know.

Happy new year to all

Car insurance came through, less than 250 quid for 1st time ever despite putting up my miles by 3k and still including business use. Not even a stripped back policy could be cheaper still but that will do me.

Love this car...as a day in day out workhorse it's just the job and costs buttons (relatively) to run. Not desirable or particularly fancy..but just means you can leave it somewhere a bit iffy and no one messes with it.

Technology actually working as it should.

1st off new BT hub arrived, its connected, everything has new password, all squared away in 15 minutes.

2nd been having a few issues with my Android Auto in the Mazda as opposed to the Citroen. Given it works fine in one but has issues in the other regards speech to text it's a hardware issue as the same phone is running both.

Discovered my headunit is 3 updates behind, got the latest firmware on to stick and low and behold...it happily updates with no dramas. Doing initial set up it asks me if it has an active DAB aerial, took a guess at yes..I now have a little red light on my aerial which wasn't there previously so appears installer said no and I've been using an unpowered active aerial for a year.

Oh and the updates tidied up the UI a bit and seem to have helped the voice commands.

Given my usual crack with tech after work is think "this will take 10 minutes" and still be there at 10pm screaming in frustration it was a nice change!

Last night rather than today, but kids had a great time at Rugby training. Little boy (U7s) was covered head to foot. We had to strip him down to under-wear before he got in the car. Daughter (U9s) was also well covered but not dripping wet like him.

Just received our personalised AbarthDriver.com sticker for our 32 Year Old Strada Abarth

Thank you Abarth Driver.

Came in nice advertising slip that folds open to offer:

1) 15% off accessories - I don't think so - not made any more
2) Mfgs safety or recall notices check - this could be interesting
3) Latest FCA specific electronic diagnostic testing - I think not
4) Checks for latest engine software updates - this could be even more interesting
5) Two year warranty on part - I wish - most parts are no longer available and out of production
6) Expert care from mfg trained technicians with real know-how - this is a real long shot - most don't even know what a Strada Abarth is - if they do they have never worked on one or they have retired or sadly deceased

The above is true for all the old Abarths (500,124,Ritmo/Strada, ....) and also a salient reminder to all companies that if you drop a company Brand/Make/Division and cease all activities for 10+, 20+ years then you can expect to get some strange looks and laughs from these original vehicle owners or you can expect some disgruntled owners to get rather irritated.

Hmm how many of those new Subarus have I been given?

Anyway..had a bit of smile today at my own stupidity, been having a little difficulty get prams n that in the boot just seemed a bit tighter than usual but a boot doesn't get smaller so clearly I'm just losing my touch.

Today I took the blanket I use to line the boot out to shake out some dry mud and had a facepalm. We'd had loads of cardboard boxes after Christmas, recycling centre had been shut and recycling bin was full due to Christmas emptying schedule.

So being a problem solver I flattened them and put them on the floor of the boot of the car so I could still do my Christmas rounds but they wouldn't be cluttering up the house and I'd drop at the recycling centre when it was open.

Except of course my cardboard false floor was so good..and covered by a blanket that I forgot it was there and I've been carrying round a bunch of empty boxes for 3 weeks.

I have a friend with a 2005 Clio. His sunroof was leaking between the frame and car roof, meaning the whole thing needed lifting out, a new seal fitting and refitting.

Workshop manual says remove whole rooflining, a huge challenge, as to remove the side trims, rear seats have to come out, and their bolts poke through, so were fighting.

With the front end released, sun visors, grab handles, interior lamp, the rooflining hung down enough to get at the 18 (I think) little bolts holding it in. Out it came, everything dried off, old seal scraped and cleaned, new seal applied (self-adhesive foam strip, £13), dropped back in, measured and aligned. Tedious fitting and tightening the screws, going around threee times to squeeze the seal evenly, then lots of struggliing to refit all the bits.

5 hours. If at a garage, more than the car is worth. Spent most of this inside the car, cramped, stretching, etc. Hard work, but not particularly dirty, and very satisfying. Big smiles, now everything aches.

New Ford Puma advert...

It appears to show a Puma owner diving off a cliff into the sea into a swarm of jelly fish, catching one in a bag while doing so..then cooking it and eating it.

Sign me up to that lifestyle right now...certainly not the one where you drive a good awful jacked up fiesta to waitrose. Perhaps he hates the puma so much the only release is to risk death for lunch..tbf it certainly worked I rewound the tv to watch it again as I thought I was hallucinating.
