What's made you smile today?

Heading out shopping, facing me was an articulated truck delivering building materials to a site, or more correctly, waiting to go into the site. Parked tight to the kerb, hazards on.

The road is wide enough there for opposing traffic to still pass.

Stopped behind the truck, a lady, patiently waiting for the 'queue' to move. Perhaps fooled by there having been traffic signals the previous week. As I continued, the queue behind her was building.

Fog lights finally in and working on Daffo. No wiring showing and the job was actually quite simple. Difficult bit was getting the air bag switch out of the glove box and removing the glovebox to get access the the bulkhead. The air bag switch has to be removed to get the glove box out and is pretty strongly held in place by spring clips.

Score! Just managed to get Apple CarPlay for the DS3. Not using aftermarket third party head units either.

So apparently a dealer was meant to be able to do the upgrade for a fee but most decided not (all two in NI confirmed they will not / can not do it). A few guys on FB claiming they can do it, but in person with the car.. all based on the mainland. A few silly genuine parts on eBay for hundreds upon hundreds... Apparently a subscription to some online PSA diagnostics needed to add it manually using VIN...

Now I've found a guy on eBay who is selling the head unit that sits inside the dash, genuine and programmed in using the VIN to work with the car properly how it's supposed to. £200, and £100 back if I send him the unit in my car.

Hope it's worth it! Always wanted CarPlay .. Now time to research the headed seats.

It became available in my Kia after a main dealer service 18 months ago. It’s handy when using google maps on phone etc, but a pain that it always needs a physical connection and won’t operate via Bluetooth.

I've had it in my golf since 2015, the older set ups need a physical connection, but newer VW's work via bluetooth. (I was hoping software updates would make the bluetooth connection work) but all a bit pointless if like me you plug the phone in, to charge in the car when you're driving anyway.

Again newer VW's (if you pay a premium) have wireless charging in a little pocket in the dash or centre console, which is quite a neat trick....

you'd probably need to drive for 2 - 3 hours to charge your phone to any decent level given how slow inductive charging is compared to normal charging methods.

Noop in the snow on a green road very near me. Over a foot of water adn then over a foot of snow. Its almost as if the car has complete contempt of such conditions. 4x4 mode not required. I actually wonder what it would take to stop a Panda in any conceivable conditions in this area. I cannot tell any difference between the old (2017) car on Continental tyres and this one on its Michelin Alpins. I would have taken some pictures but it was really too bad to get out of the car.

Can we please have a really proper helping of snow!

This made me smile a little bit:
://hudoc.exec.coe.int/eng#{"EXECIdentifier":["004-55865"]}
And pretty much it makes me cringe, but overall it gives me a hope feeling.
I won an European Cour of Human Rights case, this is it:
://hudoc.echr.coe.int/eng#{"fulltext":["999/19"],"documentcollectionid2":["GRANDCHAMBER","CHAMBER"],"itemid":["001-202732"]}

LE: yeap, the links do not load my case, if you are interested the case is 999/19 Aftanache v. Romania. It can be searched in both links and what I wanted to say that made me smile is the fact that my communication have been taken into consideration for the next Human Rights meeting of Committee of Ministers of Council of Europe.

Mike, I'm afraid I've absolutely no idea what you are on about with this? Can you explain it all a bit? Has it got anything to do with cars? Sorry, maybe I'm just missing the point altogether?

Wow ,
I am sorry you went through such a horrible experience.
Nice to see the European court of human rights working as it should.
Very strong of you to pursue justice for you and people in the the future.
Best wishes

Jack, thanks very much for putting that up so I can access it. I haven't read it right through as I'm trying to advise youngest son on what to do about brake fluid which seems to be leaking out of a rear flex hose on his car some 15/20 miles away!

It does indeed sound pretty horrendous and distressing to read about.

He's managed to get back to his village where we know the local wee garage owner who seems to be working late and is going to have a quick look at it. I'm standing by for an update - frustrating, nothing I can do from here. Looking like he'll be walking the last couple of miles home though! Hopefully if it's just a flex hose it won't be an expensive repair? He'd only popped out to the big supermarket for some supplies.

No, it has absolutley nothing to do with cars, but I thought this is the Lounge section. Sorry if I've bothered you and sorry I've allowed myself to smile a little bit.

@ Moderator: please take down my post

Hi Mike,

Don't worry , I'm glad you posted it.

Jock didn't mind he just couldn't access your links easily, I have put a link on a post that leads to a summary of the European court of human justice decision.

Thank you :) we all need to smile a bit .

Best wishes

Jack
