Dunno if you can see this properly

We're just about to go fetch Yellow now. Martyn's going to give it a wee thrash and then sometime over the next week or so with everyone's help we'll come up with a plan of action

well look like the lambdas reading to low so iirc then you are running to rich
little bit hard to read that is :)

looks like a high HC aswell whats that on the pic about 2 times the pass figure ?? thats the combustion system aparently i would look for distibuters as we swapped them about remember on the night we tried to get it started up

nothing wrong with the horn :D
but just in case id say go 120db airhorn :D

also i possibly may come up at some poit now my clutch is fixed

got 2 more items on list to do yet is brakes and my exhaust needs to be done the the coupe is fine for a while :)

it needs a cat, Fresh Plugs and air filter (if not already fitted)..Run some Cleaner through system...it will pass emmisions

Quick update/thoughts - and yeh, thanks a million for all the advice so far folks.

White paper test suggested by Craig - run that over the rear exhaust and if any oil flecks appear then CAT needs replacing and could be our issue? We still have a spare coil in the cento and thinking out loud, there are some 1.2 Puntos in Persley just now - worth removing a few????

Seatbelt tensioners - a good lube (oooh errr) may do the trick - cheers jatkinson

Brakes - can clean up or replace with shineys from FiaSco.

Wasn't the cat new/fairly new anyway?

I'd be surprised of the cat put it that far over too tbh, there's cars out there that pass emissions with decats (even though they shouldn't).

I haven't had a chance to look back through all the pages of this thread tonight, but most of the system certainly looks new.

We've a few things to try, but my single biggest worry is knowing the emissions issue is under control prior to restest.

In theory, the rest of the work we could have done before lunchtime on Saturday. WD40 the seatbelt tensioners, fit a wiper blade, fix that damned horn (or try and replace with the one I got at the weekend!)

I know that list is a mile shorter than the 3.5 pages tgst me and mark fixed when I bought it lol

You do remeber I bought a brand new cat for it

If the cat is new, (ie less than a year old) then it prob not a cat issue, one thing to be aware of, is a non approved CAT converter (i.e cheaper replacement, less good minerals inside) can fail well within a few months, i have seen myself change a CAt converter 1 year, then 11 months later it still fails next MOT......

If we are sure the cat is relativly new, under 1 year, then we need to be thinking, that a internal engine seal is gone, and oil has contaminated the exhaust sytem, which if true would warrent a new cat (as cat fitted will be contaminated) due to Very High HC readings (unburnt oil).

From my years running a gargae and dealing with MOT failures, i can positivly say emmisions are the black arts, of motor repairs....although the most expensice repair is genarraly cat replacement, it solves the issue 9 times out of 10. \if it is an interal oil seal, though you could be looking at replacing cat every year....just to get reading down at time of test...

Other option would be drop another engine in with, existing cat atc and re do a full MOT......which may be a cheaper option, excluding time ....if that then fails for same reason, then we basically confirm the cat, as faulty...as it would be unliky 2 engines both have internal oil leaks.
