Yellow - FS Project Seicento 2

Yellow - FS Project Seicento 2

The big focus yesterday was getting Yellow ready for MOT which meant swapping the back brakes and making sure it wasn't going to fail on anything easy and obvious. First things first the front fogs were wired up (even though they weren't an MOT fail) and the cv boot checked. Thankfully, the CV is fine and a new pair of jubilee clips will fix the boot. The ARB bushes are ok - long term, they'll need done, but the opinion is they should go through the MOT. Phew.

After the front of the car was diagnosed, work moved on to the back of the car and it was jacked up and the rear wheel removed. First problem was no locking key for the nuts but some force and perseverance paid off. Ah yes, that and a bit of heat. Nuts removed from the car we exited for some new shiny nuts and a maccie d's for lunch.

After lunch we were joined by Lewis's mate Stuart who really went to town on the back brakes. As usual lots of bolts were seized - that blowtorch was a fantastic buy

The sunroof on Yellow looked like this

So it was swapped with the one from FiaSco so it now looks like this

Yellows handbrake levers were seized and although FiaSco benefited from a new set of levers the overall consensus was that Yellow's would do - if only we could free them up. With the rear brakes stripped, WD40 and a bit more heat were introduced. After a little bit of persuasion, they were suitably free enough to re-fit to yellow.

FIRE :D

The usual problem of a stubborn bolt was solved by the usual method of grinding and whacking the **** out of it. This was the first use of the generator btw

Old shock from Yellow was replaced by the new shocks put on FiaSco

The back brakes replaced with the newer parts from FiaSco and the springs replaced with the nice new ones abyss supplied with the car

Nearly there

20131012_165342.jpg

We have not one but two lights now. The strip light on the right was acquired by Lewis and myself on Thursday evening from a shed on site. When we arrived on Saturday there was a second light on one of the wooden pallets behind the wall. None of us could remember it being there before and wondered where it appeared from. The mystery was solved by the appearance of Donnie, the grounds person at my work, who turned up on his Massey Ferguson much to Lewis's delight.

Donnie is a good friend to FS as he has been instrumental in us getting the generator (even charging and fitting the battery for us) and has suggested somewhere where we can weld safely. For this FS salutes him and we will be giving him a Xmas present to say thank you

Nearly there but there's more work to do today including giving the car a damn good clean as it's been gathering stoor in the shed

The work today is more or less a case of adjust, fine tune and clean. Finish the bumper, jubilee up the CV boot, check the headlight alignment, adjust the clutch, check levels etc and try to get that bloody horn working!

Finally we have produced a fully positive day! I'm just away to get ready to come across with the jet wash and a special cleansing present for yellow!

Told them I was popping inside to do a quick update but really I'm in my nice cosy office thawing out :D It's cold today in that shed

The first task today was Operation Feed Yellow as she was pretty much running on fumes. Unfortunately the jerry can wasn't the best and we probably lost almost as much petrol as we got in the car but still the fuel light is off and we're out of the red.

Next thing was to clean her which involved a quick trip down to a water source and the use of @lewisp's dad's kercher. It also involved a quick trip to asda but the less that's said about that the better

Once clean it was back to the shed where we were joined again by Lewis's good mate Stuart. They got to work on sorting the idling problem and she now idles perfectly

Next on the list is adjusting the clutch, replacing a number plate bulb, sorting the CV boot and getting the horn to work properly. Oh and the bumper is still bugging Martyn so no doubt he'll have a go at that too if there's time :)

I guess I better leave my nice warm office and head back to the freezing cold shed to continue de-pinking FiaSco

So yeh....to recap on today..

Not sure when Yellow was last washed, but she was treated today!

Last night I met up with lewisp and his mate stuart, our other mechanic for the weekend, at the Torry Jet Wash. I gave the old FiaSco alloys another coating of acitone and jetwashed a bit more paint off. I also washed down the inner arches from FiaSco, which we'll be fitting on Yellow ASAP. Sadly time, and a lack of screws, went against us today

You may recall we bought new oil, an oil filter and plugs...just in case?

New plugs are in - and the idle has been corrected so she sits a lot better. We noticed today that the clutch is starting to feel more responsive, so I'm not sure but hopefully someone can advise - this is most likely the new clutch that @abyss and Mrcento fitted many yonks back simply bedding in??

Lewis had a bit of trouble with one of yellows battery terminals, so he and msb89 headed off to Halfruads to pick up another. While they were away stuart greased up the CV and secured the boot, whilst I fettled with the bumper again. With the cv done and the new terminal on, the horn proved to be one of the last headaches. With a fixed time deadline today and the clock ticking, we frantically worked to get the horn to sound more than a faint 'b'

Relays were checked and changed, fuses were replaced and new wiring (maybe just earthing?!) was also fitted but in the end we ran the existing cable and switched the replacement horn for the original - it's not perfect, but it's loud enough that it should pass the MOT. Hopefully.

Final job of the day was going to be putting a MK2 'round' badge on the bonnet, but in true style the old bonnet badge just won't budge. We had to settle with the next best thing, an FS tree sticker on the rear window. That'll do for now!

fs_tree.jpg

btw I'd like to say a massive THANK YOU to EVERYONE who's helped work on the cars up until now. We really couldn't have got this far without your help!

Reding this thread now I feel all warm and cozy inside because it all sounds positive!

Showed this photo to the guy who fixes my car and asked him if he'd fail it for the indicator lense

20131013_120124.jpg

He said he would simply to prevent any comeback on him later on. With that in mind and as it's a cheap Groupon MOT we have I think we're going to have to replace the lenses with orange ones before Tuesday

We've done as much as we can and it's now all in the hands of the MOT tester. I had a wee shottie of it down in one of the car parks and didn't want to stop. It's a really fun car to drive and that wasn't at any great speed either. Can't wait to get it out on the roads proper :D

Wow, that was really quite sedate driving and yet in true small car form it felt a lot faster than that

Oh and I laughed again at the washer adjustment.
