Things you hate on cars

map wont tell you that there is traffic ahead like sat nav. wont tell you where there is a cheap petrol station just off the motor way like a sat nav.
wont give a warning if you creap over speed limit like sat nav.
:yeahthat:

What is it with these sat-nav haters!

I can read a paper map, thank you very much (y) would still have a satnav over that anytime  As long as you use some common sense...

There is nothing I particularly hate ON a car, however one thing I hate IN a car is trash. I mean ffs, you pull up outside your house every day, is it that difficult to take the empty bottles/cans/bk wrappers etc etc etc etc end chuck them in the bin :bang:

You haven't met my sister I was going to get some low tack vinyl cut to put on my mums KA she drives "BIFFA" was one option

I prefer a Map to sat nav but as dave said a sat nav is a safer option if you dont have a passenger who can read a map,

I have no problems with an O/S map and when out Mountain biking the amount of people i come across who are lost in a small Forrest is unreal

Even when it sends you up and down the same stretch of road three times or refuses to accept that a piece of road exists or sends you totally the long way round for no obvious reason? Always better to plan on paper first and use the satnav for fine tuning only IMO.

only problem I've ever had is one road near home, and I just hadn't switched it off, don't use mine often though :)

Everytime we get a repair guy out or something delivered they are always like its a trial to get up here isn't it all the roads are single track and windy!...
At which point you say you followed satnav didn't you? and then give them directions for the way back to where they are going that don't involve farm tracks.

why not show them how to tell the sat nav that they are driving a truck?

No, I always plan using Google Maps - to get a feel for the area - then use my satnav as the 'guide' in the car! I very rarely need to print out a map, unless I am driving into London, for example...

Well Google map's the same as paper I guess - you are still planning and making sure you go in approximately the right direction. All I can say is satnav must work better darn sarf as it seems to be a north-south split between lovers and haters (or in my case just not trusting the thing to send me the right way) *shrugs*

I just reckon that some people have a poor sense of direction, whether using satnav or maps.

When I see people advocating paper maps, I think of the old-fashioned atlas - which doesn't really give street names, just road numbers. Then you had to stop at a local shop to buy a local street map of the area. That was back in the 80s mind...

I really have had no issues with my Garmin getting me to places, so until such time I do, I can't fault it

I use a mixture of online route planners and maps. I'll print off the final .5 miles or so if it gets fiddly I.e. you get off the motorway and main roads and into side streets at which point you can find somewhere to pull over and make sure your on right track. Up here it seems to send you down the smallest roads for no reason mate followed it down a dead end farm track and had to be rescued by us LOL his own fault but with a map and sense of direction it wouldn't have happened.

why not show them how to tell the sat nav that they are driving a truck?

tomtom has that option to download off tomtom HOME, you tell it the height of your vehicle and it calculates the route missing all the low bridges etc
