not only that, they wouldn't really be going fast, Just 'faster' than they would without snow tyres. I just thought last night driving home, i'm driving around 15 mph, i'd hate to think I needed emergency assistance now.

Which is another thing, we really do need to be more prepared to fend for ourselves at least until help arrives, especially in conditions like this. (collectively, I don't mean everyone on this forum)

Made me appreciate that in Ayia Napa where help would have taken ages, and even when it arrived, they were no where near the standard we are here - made me take a bit more care.

what about speed ratings, deliver vans wont be going as fast as police and ambulance, can you get high speed rating winters?

Just got this off of a winter tyre site in the FAQ section

"Why is the speed rating not the same as my usual tyres?
Summer tyres have higher speed ratings than winter tyres, but rest assured this won’t have an impact on your driving as even an H rate winter tyre can achieve speeds over 130mph."

Snow today. Saturday 23 Mar 2013 in Sheffield.
The big Fiat in the middle (Fiat Motorhome 2.8JTD) and the little Fiat hidden to the right in picture (Fiat Stilo Multiwagen 1.9JTD).

apparently there is more to a speed rating than the actual top speed people in the croma section say
the croma 18" wheels requires a Y speed rating to be at manufactures spec, but no croma can do 186 mph. manufactures spec for the same car but with 16" wheels only needs a V rated tyre, same car same engine.

Odd isn't it?

Same storey in the punto

14" steelies Speed + weight of 81T
14" alloys = 82H
15" alloys = 82V

So adding alloys means you need a more weight supporting tyre and higher speed?
from 462KG @ 190KMH (118mph)
to 475kg @ (H) 210kmh 130mph to (V) 240KMH 149MPH

So the 8v punto is capable of 96mph, why do we need 149mph tyres?

Ziggy

Lane Top, near the Fire station.
Snow has stopped for a while, and I know tomorrow supposed to be just overcast, so perhaps I can do a bit of work on my motorhome.

There's a 4x4 peeping out of the snow :) Apparently there are other cars stuck in there too. Bearing in mind this is about 2 miles from the coast, that's pretty extreme!
