Anthony,
A lone axle stand, mmmmmmmm
I have the car up on two axle stands, one either side. I've thought about getting it up on two either side, but people here said no real need.
Anyways, the shaft is out. Looks as if you did not remove/disconnect much at all ?!
I disconnected the control arm and left the rest in place.
Prey tell, to help others, what was disconnected/removed please to enable the inner joint to be removed from the gearbox please ?
Oh the trick....well on my EVO its this;
1) Leave the driveshaft attached to the hub
2) Turn the brake discs 360 degrees several times
3) You'll notice that the difficulty of turning the brake discs changes from easy to a little harder as you rotate
4) The hard part to rotate corresponds to the circlip gap up - so stop turning when you feel that
5) Use a big screwdriver or similar
6) Rest the screwdriver shaft on the gearbox and place the tip of the screwdriver on the driveshaft
7) Tap the screwdriver smartly with a hammer AND at the same time lever the screwdriver shaft to push the driveshaft out
I can't gurantee this'll work for you, or even me when I try to get the other driveshaft out, but i believe this to be the case.
Hurrah, success, give your self a real pat on the back. Stuff can be very difficult sometimes, but character building.
Thanks.
Post a better picture of the old seal, and the new seal.......
Don't be tempted to remove those four bolts that hold that cover on........get a manual, even a Haynes one is of some use.
Righto. I have the Haynes manual and will take a look.
You know what is involved with removing the gearbox, and any other "special tools" you may need.....clutch plate aligning tool perhaps, not to mention how engine its self is supported when gearbox is of etc. etc. etc....
I know in theory but not in practice, i'll have to work that out as i get to it!
