There is no handbrake adjustment at the Caliper for the Stilo, Just check to see if the Lever is At full rest and the spring is not under tension, A good helping of WD40 and a bit of movement usually free's it off if it is sticking. The Caliper should wind back Clockwise. Take it you have a wind back Tool? Always a good idea to loosen the tension on the cable by the handbrake lever, then fit pads and discs then take up the tension on the cable AFTER the system has been bled.

Universal tool is ideal. nowt fancy about the stilo pistion, just a standard 2 pin attachment needed

Banjo???? ( Not heard that one for a fitment, Even from my monkeys Mechanics) Just a standard Threaded Flexi...Quater turn while still bolted on .Unbolt caliper then Twist Caliper to unscrew.

Dam, the banjo is so much better compared to the threaded type :( . The honda uses them.

They are like this:

With you on the Banjo fittings, Ming. Spider and 131s had banjo fittings as standard. If fact that set up started on the Fiat 128 and was thrown on all Fiats, right up to the X19 (1989)

The penny has dropped.....Banjo fitting.....am sure my Stilo was the threaded type, did change the caliper on mine, but that was a year'ish ago...but i do change a lot of brake cals at work and may just be getting confused.....either way, its a simple change.....sure a man of your caliber will have it done quickly, including brews and burgers

Had a quick search on FF and there's a thread about the handbrake adjustment here... http://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/77452-handbrake-adjustment.html ...as thought it's done in the cabin via that panel.

Pondering if it could've just been something that happened on a drive to knock the pads themselves out of place as there shouldn't be less/more than around 1mm of clearance. If they're slap bang against the disc (which they both are from the looks of it, though NS as said not as bad as there's material left on the pad) then that'd suggest something's went a bit wrong.

As has been said though, bit of strategic WD40 could be all that's needed to free things up. Could've even gone overboard getting that new/refurbed caliper though from the description of similar happenings I've read on FF, a new caliper can be required in some cases when the WD doesn't win through. Shall see tomorrow :)

Thanks again guys for all the pointers, tips and the like - always saying to my Dad/sis that joining a car forum with people who know what they're talking about's a godsend when you need help on the car :)

Well, OS caliper swapped perfectly fine along with disc and pads. NS though, bleed nipple sheared and piston won't wind back so temporarily at least, Ming has another Fiat to add to his parking lot

Cheers to Andi and Ming for the work done so far, crap weather to be doing it in and I really appreciate it even if it's not went completely to plan :p

Annoying feature on the Stilo - when key is in my back jeans pocket, the windows lower. Not the best in this weather especially when I don't find out for a number of minutes lol Basically though it's caused by the normally good feature that if you hold the unlock button down on the key fob, it lowers the window. Wish it had a mobile style key lock switch on the fob though for the afore mentioned reason.

What a bummer! If you need any help with tools ( taps, dies, drills, ezzay outs ) or need a hand give me a shout.

John. Ming's buying a new calliper for the N/S/R which Rob's going to pay him back for, although Ming's taking the mentioned calliper to David, see if he can rewind the Piston & remove the old sheard Bleed nipple (sure there's a gag to be had there) & put another bleed nipple on (yup Nipple's again).

Yeah there's the smallest of chances the NS caliper can be salvaged and a new one may not be necessary. If not, then a new/refurbed one will just have to be bought. I should've known after how relatively easily Ming did the OS one that there'd be trouble ahead, ah well, these things happen.

And cheers John, the offer's much appreciated :)
