As I wrote in a previous thread I have a 2010 panda multijet which I had 'remapped' by a local company in Banbury last summer. So far so good, I don't drive it hard, but allow the torque to do the work and I quite enjoy driving it, the extra 25 hp makes its quite a fun vehicle. I put new brake discs and some quality pads on it shortly after the remap so it stops properly, quite quickly infact if you need to.
I have also fitted some 14" steel rims and 175/65/14 tyres from a fiat 500 which are marginally taller than the old 155/80/13's and offer a litte more front end grip adn reduce the gearing slightly but marginally. I don't really want to go down the 15" alloys route as the roads around here are terrible and I want it to be resilient to potholes, not a victim of them.
My only gripe now is the gearing, at an indicated 70mph the engine is doing a little under 3000 rpm which is silly IMHO. I have searched the forum but cannot find anyone really talking about this, but my feeling is there must be a suitable 6 speed gearbox that will be a relatively easy sway considering how many different vehicles have the 1.3 MJ engine.
I have looked at gearboxes on ebay (just for inspiration at present, not to purchase) from corsa's & astras, but the box looks visually different, not least the internal slave cylinder and selector input. I wondered if the bellhousing from the panda would bolt onto the gearbox from one of these....
Also looked at gearboxes from Fiorino's and Puntos but they both appear to be different too. Anyone got any good advice?
TIA.
