Technical mk2 punto wiper linkage upgrade.

Thanks Dave, have sent an email off today detailing that the nylon washer has worn away, and I'd be after a repalcement.

did they replace the whole linkage for you?

The snap-on kit was a snap to fit. I didn't fancy losing the skin it would take to fit the links with the motor still in place so I removed it before fitting (gave me a chance to clean the muck off the balls). The only remotely fiddly bit it putting the plastic cowelling back on, makign sure it hooks under the windscreen glass properly.

One thing I did notice is that not only are the plastic joints better, but the metal of the links seems thicker. I slightly bent the original Fiat ones when pulling them off.

Just uo update you Dave, wipex have emailed back, very promply today to say they kits should last a lifetime and not a year, therefore they are going to send me out a new and want me to return my kit to them via post once I recieve the new ones. Theyvee even included postage stamps to pay for the postage back.

My kit was bought early 2008, could it have possibly been the older style too? I'm not sure!

someone earlier mentioned a product for greasing the balljoints that was plastic friendly, can this be got easily and whats the brand/name?

That was me. It is something called Nyogel 770Z made by Nye lubricants, a light grease that is metal, rubber and plastic-safe. You won't need a lot since you don't want to attract dirt into the joint.

I had both mine go in the same week. did a Temp fix on one of them usinga wasin machine spanner end bend round to hold it together.
Bought the cheaper set of wipex links they work like a treat! much better than the old ones (Y)
Just make sure you buff off any rust or rough edges off the ball joint, and grease it well, dont wanna be ruinin these new joints do we;)

i know this aint really on subject but i duno if i'm only one with this problem,
i got mk2 punto 1.2 and the passenger side wiper arm drops down to low and hitting the plastic at bottom of the windscreen, looked into more and noticed theres a tiny bolt that holds it in place to the car but it seems tight but the bracket its mounted to still wobbles, and the linkage arms seem loose,
other than that they wipe fine till the go down and make a really annoying noise.
anyone else come upon this problem?
if so a cheap quick fix?
many thanks.

Fantastic thread and info, Dave.

I will order a replacement set from Wipex as soon as they will tell me how much is shipping to Italy.

At the moment the linkage is held in place by a rubber band, as explained by the resident artisan mechanic (as opposed to a modern "I connect the computer to the car and I will change every piece it tells me it broken, even if it is not" mechanic). :worship:

The rubber band however breaks every few weeks, so I keep a package in my bonnet...

Fortunately for me, what is the driver side for you is the passenger side for me, so I have almost no problem when the rubber band snaps while I am driving...:worship:

Re: mk2 punto wiper linkage upgrade. from £30.20

You need to remove the complete wiper motor unit from the car.
Then you can remove the linkages with hand pressure. Fitting is a breeze. Just make sure you have removed any rough edges / burrs from the balls. You can use some black sandpaper. I started off with 400 and finished with 1200 paper.
Installation is the reverse of how you removed it from the car.

Unless the wiper spindle is really slack & sloppy, a Wipex linkage kit will almost certainly fix this.

yeah but then fiat charge silly amounts for a whole new wiper system and thats the only way

unless you get the wipex system which is cheaper but still expensive
