Technical Wiper linkage

Can I use any of the vast array of linkage clips available for the ends of the wiper motor assembly to stop the linkage dropping off the centre ball joint where the two linkage rods connect to the motor??
Or any suggestions other than forking out a fortune for the Wipex ones??
