Technical Punto roof trim strips (Mk2 2002)

Hi,
I removed the plastic trim strips either side of the roof in order to paint the roof. I`m having problems getting the OS trim back, esp from the door to scuttle, it just won`t lie flat, there`s about a mm gap twixt roof and seal. (The NS just seemed to push back OK then `clip` back with gentle thumping along its length) I`m not happy as the cavity under the trim seems like a perfect water trap?
1/ does the trim actually form a seal or is it just a cosmetic thing? Does water drain from the gutter underneath the seal?
2/ HOW is it retained so it fits tightly. I`ve done a bit of research and it seems some have clips but this trim just seems one piece rubber? Can`t find any trace of adhesive either.
Any help appreciated.

It is hard to tell how mine is fixed on. At the rear its feeling like it is glued on. It should be all original. Mine ***is*** glued in a few places over the rear doors. Over the rear door there is a metal tab that comes through the rubber but its not holding anything. The tab is usually hidden by the seal. I never knew it was there till now. I can pull the seal off over the front door where it meets the windscreen. It can be clearly seen there that water can travel under the rubber.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! That`s helpful to know, sort of confirms my suspicions that it`s more cosmetic than an actual seal.
I`ll just push it back as best I can, maybe a spot of silicone here & there.

mine is held by what looks like an impact adhesive like evo stick. when you try to find the glue it begins to tear apart by the time you can lift the seal to find it. The previous owner used silicon to add extra door seals. For sure it will stick to the puntos paint. Right pain to get off. I know i have read here before that these seals just 'pull off´. maybe not at the windscreen though. I never had the courage to take mine off in case it damages the paint.
