Helz, kids bring an enormous amount to people's lives, I wouldn't be without Callum. I have a note here by my side that he wrote to me yesterday - unprompted. It says (unedited):

He presented that to me, gave me a hug and carried on with his toys.

Pete I know how much you value and love your son, I'm not trying to talk anyone out of it. I should have put that it was my opinion - it is my opinion and it's not going to change. Pretty much responsible for anything to do with communications within the Council I work for... Telephones (1500 of those), Email, Firewall, VOIP, Video conferencing, Networks, the list appears to be endless...

I can understand most of a Welsh conversation but I only speak tipyn bach (a little!) That is why the job offer is a suprise as they are keen for people in the council to speak Welsh, in Wales...can't imagine why?

Yep, that's why I was asking actually - because of the big push in Wales for Welsh speakers. Girlfriend is Welsh - Welsh educated and family language although only until around 10, now they speak English at home. No particular reason either but it raises a few debates with her and her family (when I am courageous enough )

Thanks... but even the binmen have impressive job titles in the council. I hasten to add I am not dissing binmen as I think they do a sterling job

It gets a bit silly sometimes. I have been in meetings where I am the only English speaker, so they hold the meeting in Welsh and get a translator for me... what a waste of money! Everyone can speak English, why not have the meeting in English? My misses is a primary school teacher and she will have trouble progressing because of her lack of welsh ability. Ah well. Rant over. :bang:

There was a large article in this months chem eng mag about people using "engineeri" in their titles when they aren't engineerings. I.e. "Waste disposal engineers" = binmen, domestic engineers = cleaners, chimney engineers -chimney sweep!

I actually had a long chat (about 45 minutes!) with a bloke who worked at Heath Hospital (cardiff) about that (and other things) and he gave statistics to me (no idea if they were true nor can I rememebr them) about all the extra costs and it is stupid. My gf would put up a large argument for it though!

She's also training to be a primary teacher funnily enough!

Sorry, forgot to mention that bloke was at Bristol station, I often make the Nttm-Cardiff trip and often it's re-routed via Bristol annoyingly, we were both there going to Cdiff and were banging our heads against the wall for the stupid trains hence got chatting (unusual for me).

But yep, small world about a lot of things.
