I've been on a diet since january, was 15 1/2 stone, up to last week down to 13st 8lb, hurt my back and put on 3lb over 4 days sick! :s meaning I'm back up to 13st 11lb!! :( my secret is the fitness and calorie counter free off the apps store if you own an iPhone! ;)

well, i'm not trying to lose weight (im far too skinny as it is) but trying to get fitter and stronger, so returned to playing football today as an outfield player for the first time in nearly 3 years

Brutal. not helped by the fact i tried to play like i used to when i was half fit and ended up chasing everything down. stupid.

i was so far off the pace it was unreal, was knackered after 20 minutes. towards the end i was faced with either chasing someone for 50 yards or taking him out to save me the bother, after aiming for option one for 5 yards i changed my mind and had to go for option 2.

im not a dirty player, honest guv.

on the bright side im still able to walk, so held up well enough. also managed to fluke a goal by mishitting a cross with my left foot.... to everyone else it looked like a cracking goal with the outside of my foot...i only wish i was talented enough to have meant it

Hello stranger :) how's the studying?

hmm not well atm, missed deadline for one assignment but will be alright. 4weeks till dissertation hand in, half way though it so just have to get the finger out an get it finished.

Cycling went well at the weekend. No further complaints of note from the knee/leg so we're finally winning that battle!

The diet? Well, a bit better again, had fish last night so not ideal (chippy fish) but better than the alternatives.

Might finally get to the gym this weekend - and next weekend I've a long weekend so we'll see how I handle that!

I had a nice brisk walk to work today wi some good pop tunes blaring  secretly seeded ham sandwich and seabrook prawn crisps  for lunch. Walk home tonight and hopefully a nice tea by the GLW :) Might even tempt to jump on the scales tonight argh!

Good news about your knee. And nothing wrong with chippy fish as long as you left the batter :)

mmmnnn, seabrook crisps. I got introduced to them when I was living a wee bit further south from you and have had a soft spot for them ever since - especially Canadian Ham flavour. Must stop thinking about crisps.

Good luck with your dissertation.

I had a bad day on Sunday only slightly tempered by a long, brisk walk with my niece and the mad dogs. Food-wise though is best not mentioned however I have been good ever since. Managed a 3.5 mile run last night and am pleased with the way I'm steadily increasing the distance. The 10k is two months today and I should be able to easily run the distance although the time won't be very good but hey ho, a month or so ago I wasn't running at all.

Thanks :) Not so keen on the ham flavour, cheese & onion and the prawn cocktail yum! Good luck for the 10k, I'd planned to do the Cumbrian run (half marathon) to celebrate turning 30. Needless to say I didn't do it :( semi considering it this year, will see after start of June.

Much as I'd love to walk to my work, it's impossible.

Seriously thinking about a one-off cycle there though - in aid of charity.

Walking to my work. well you'd have to run across part of the A77, then you have a very very long walk to Ayr, going through:
Monkton, Prestwick & Newton upon Ayr, then thorugh Ayr Town centre up to Castlehill Road to Morrisons.
By road driect it's roughly 12miles & can take as little as 10mins sometimes, other times it can take upto 30mins.

1 off cycle.... used to think about that myself before I had a car, sold the bike I used to have *sighs* that used to be my pride & Joy.
Jeep Comanche Dual Susepsnion Mountain Bike 21 gears 26" wheels, couldn't even tell you how much I spent on repairs on that bike over the years (2004- early 2008) 100's of inner tubes, 1trye, front suspension forks, 2 wheels, chain, rear derailer, front deralier... the list just goes on really.

If it was for charity, then I would do a sponcered/ one off cycle

Although it has been hinted a few times I could cycle to work using the Formartine and Buchan walkway I've ignored it as I hate bikes. Much prefer the comfort of the car :)

Seriously Martyn, Aberdeen to Peterhead? Along the A90 or the walkway?

On the walkway - much longer journey but there's a chance I won't die if I use it. A90 = guaranteed death.

Take it you work in Dyce then before that's been mooted?

Had a wee bump in the Vec last night so the project bike I've started buying parts for might have to go on hold for a couple of weeks. Vec parts required more urgently, she's sporting a fresh battle scar :( Looks like another trip to Overton for me.

Bucksburn but close enough apparently. I ran the section from Dyce to Ellon last time I was in healthy mode. There's a slight incline for the Dyce to Newmachar section which threw us a bit but probably isn't noticable on the bike.

Bad news about the vec. What happened?

Vec info now in projects section. In addition to being rammed last week, it's now running like a bag of spanners. Eng management light has been on most of the weekend, and despite levels being ok (oil and water even topped up, just to be safe) it cut out yesterday on Anderson Drive. Bad times!

I did, however, put in an hour at the Gym yesterday. Did a bit better than I thought, but need to stick with it. 30 mins or so on the treadmill (walking/jogging at best) 10 on a cross trainer thing (meh) then some weights, rowing and cycling for a bit!

I've just realised it's been a while since I updated this.

Things have been up and down as usual and that includes my weight - down 0.9 kilo last week and up 0.2 kilo this week. The overall trend is down but I am beginning to regret starting up the weekly weigh-ins. I'm much happier judging things by clothes size as that's going in one direction only.

Did a 4-mile run last week and it was difficult. As the distance has increased I've no longer been able to avoid hills - well not unless I run laps round the local park which would not be a good idea as 1) I'd get bored and 2) it'd scare the kids. Anyways, the hills were killing me last night and it felt like I was running through treacle. May have to rethink that strategy a bit.

Is there a cure for clumsiness?

Fell down my back steps earlier today and have either wrenched or sprained my ankle. It's been iced, I've taken ibuprofen and I'm sitting with it elevated but it still bloody hurts. Today's run has naturally been cancelled and I'm probably out of action for a minimum of a week - possibly more depending on the damage. I am so mad at myself!

No, and there's no prize either!

Sucks I guess.

Must say I'm fairing a bit better. Been to the gym something like 4 times in the past week, running away happily on the treadmill and everything. Today, though, was the test. I desperately want to try this cycle to Peterhead in summer. And it's gonna be a killer.

So, as a test, I thought I'd hit the Deeside Way again. Ended up in Banchory. A wee bit sore, but I think that's to be expected after something like 30 miles of pedalling.
