cheap dash cam?

@Dragon Man how come you taken yours apart?

might have to do the same with mine.. keeps turning itself off ergh!

yes that is why... the battery in these things are poor at best. can never use the motion detection feature because the battery is so bad.

therefore i am removing the battery and making it directly connected to the cars power.

bit like how the radio in a car works. 2 lives. one constant (that replaces the 3.6v cameras battery) and one ignition live (5v.. that turns the camera on and off)

sometimes the power lead and adapter.. sometimes its the camera its self..

im going to remove both.. so its getting both working voltages at the correct voltages and not low like the power lead gives out.

@Dragon Man I've got the power source via a hardwired USB... worked fine until about 2 weeks ago :/ I switched back to the 'original' power and it still does it.. :/ possibly a connection loose inside the camera?

it will be the battery.. replace it with another li-on battery. something from out of an old phone. or pick them up on ebay. will work after ;)

also in the settings turn all the lights off on it (tap the power button while its recording) and change the back light so it turns off after 15 seconds.

some of the tricks i had to do with mine...

My camera has gone throught the screen flickering - poor battery life etc etc

Turns out it was because the power adaptor wasn't doing its job
Plugged my tom tom in instead - it worked beautiful

Found out the battery wasn't holding charged - it'd swelled 1mm each side

Replaced battery - it worked great :)

Till it started playing up again, the connector i was using was kaput - replaced that - off i go again :)

REVIEW: Mini DVR 0801 The Smallest 1080p LCD Car Dash Cam with Ambarella A2S60 - YouTube

Techmoan's latest upload - he seems to be drooling over this camera.
$99 - seen one on ebay just shy of £62. DVR0801.

Still seems a bit bulky to me but it's a popular cam & tech reckons it's his fave!

Ambarella reckon they will bring out a dual cam job based on their well-respected tech - not sure if it will be like the F70 (so like the one in Techmoan's review plus an additional plug in cam) OR if they are going for two remote lenses.
They also say it will warn you if you stray out of lane as well as being able to link to your smartphone to review footage etc.

Again, instead of concentrating on getting it right, they want a unit with bells and whistles from the off. :bang:

And no doubt all these bells and whistles will give the unit a premium price.

Eldest son came in last night showing off his new gadet, the mobius 1080P.

Nice vid, excellent audio.
He's got it for airsoft games and attaching to a quadcopter (thats the next gadget to come).

I've got £40 in Amazon vouchers to spend so think i'll get a dash cam guys. What would you recommend? :)

Wrightyy

Pretty sure http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00F13OLUG/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

is the latest one Techmoan's drooling over.

£78 inc delivery (and it's the version with GPS, they say) and an 8Gb memory card, so it'l only cost another £38.

There's also many of the dual cams for sale (that many of us on here use), such as HD 720P Dual Lens Dashboard Car vehicle Camera Video: Amazon.co.uk: Camera & Photo
Coming in just over your voucher.
There was another at £26 but it had crap reviews! I'm not sure why there are so many with vastly different prices on their either (quality?), It certainly isn't worth any more than the £40-odd quid in the link.

It's nice to have the dual cam but the tech is 'ancient' and much better cams are out / due out soon - but if you keep holding back for better cams, you'll never buy one!

after finding out my camera is yet again on the brink
(running off the power supply and not using the bttery at all)

I think i will invest my money into a new one like that

The 60fps version that sludguts vs the 30fps footage makes plates a little bit clearer
So Hopefully i can find a UK seller or wait 300 years for a china one :(

Does anyone know where you can get the 60fps twin cams from? Been searching eBay without luck, and gone back to page 24 and can't find a link :(

its apprently just a firmware update allowing 60fps

Now the difference is slight, but i wonder why the 60's disppeared off the bay? problems with them maybe?
