Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, although I've had many Fiats in the past. I've just bought a Panda 100hp in white to do auto tests, solo's, sprints and hillclimbs with. my initial intention is to strip the interior and get it as light as possible.

I'm posting here for any links to companies that sell tuning parts or ECU upgrades for the car??

thanks in advance for any replies.

I think you might struggle with ECU upgrades (assuming you're talking remaps) as there's only one company who appears to have cracked the Panda's ECU and they're based in Belgium. Piggy backs do seem to be available but I have no idea the quality of them...

Interested to know what steered you towards the 100hp....?

1. I have always loved Fiats, I've owned 16 in the past!!

2. I had £7K to spend on a track day car. Yes £7K...Brand new

3. I looked at some other cars and found they all needed "Something" just to get them as new or at least in VGC.

4. EVO magazine

5. I like to be different.

6. It's light, nimble and relatively cheap to use as a fun car on the road.

7. I must be Mad!!!

I'm sorry to say this but I honestly don't think the 100hp will make a very good trackday car. Not without some serious fettling. For 7K you'd have been better off buying a good DC2 (ie integra type-R). See my handling limitations thread.

No offense TDQ, is it me or do you somehow in every post manage to slag off the Panda whether it be a MJ, a Cross or a 100hp? And if you aren't that keen on it, then why drive one? Lets be honest, we all know its not the best car in the world, but it's small, cheap and built in Poland and for this sort of money, it's an absolute bargain. Maybe i'm getting the wrong end of the stick here but i think you take it too serious sometimes, besides, the Panda seems good in Hill climb/road rally form as the vid below clearly shows.

If you take a look at my current list of other cars on my Signature, you'll notice that I have a very powerful, very good Track day car in my R32 GTR. The Mustang will be fun too, once I get all the new fully adjustable suspension fitted with uprated ARB's. But...................

All that big power is great, but sometimes, I just feel that a little lightweight screamer will be more fun. Horses for courses and all that. Also none of my cars would be much good for auto test, solo or hillclimb events??

BTW, a colleague who uses a Golf and a Scooby for Track days has told me that in an old Track car mag (Formerly CCC), there was a 2 page article on the 100hp. They stated "It would make a great track day car", but that's all according to my colleague?? Dont quote me just yet.

I think it's gonna be a lot of fun, lets just find out.

I notice that you state in your post that the car will not oversteer? Did you try uping the pressure in the rear tyres as an experiment?

The car will easily oversteer with the standard pressures...

Haha, I'll second that. there's some cracking roads that I use on my daily commute. I've found the 100HP keen to nip the tail out on a few of the corners and it goads you into driving it faster.

Just to add my two p's worth, I've taken the 100HP out on track a couple of times now and it's a little belter, completely transformed on smooth surfaces where bumps/lumps/holes/funny cambers become less of an issue. The only place I found it wanting was in slow, tight hairpins where it struggles to get it's power down and is keen to spin the inside front wheel and on the straights (of course) but I'm guessing that out and out speed is less of a concern for sprints/hillclimbs etc.

Other than that don't worry about what's 'wrong' with the car and start enjoying everything that's right about it! Good luck with the tuning and keep us up to date on developments. (y)

Have you ever heard of something called 'balance'? I admit I hate the MJ I had one for 9 months and just could not get on with it. I think i'm entitled to my opinion on that.

I'm not slagging off pandas per se, I am merely being realistic and stating that there are limitations to what the car is capable of. The panda is a value for money car and as a result built to a cost, so aspects like the chassis tend to use the cheapest to manufacture configuration and there are consequences as a result.

How can you take something too seriously? Surely only a fool doesn't think about things properly?

That panda in vid looks all well and good but its a galaxy away and serious ££££s from a standard panda.

Okay fair play, I do think though you'll need to play around with the suspension somewhat to try to alleviate the lifting of the front inside wheel.

As for oversteer, in the dry on medium to slow speed bends you cannot seem to bring the rear end into play because of the inside front lifting. On faster bends say 60mph+ you can induce oversteer which is fun, although you'll need to be on the ball to an extent because having a relatively short wheelbase the car needs a fairly quick input to balance it.

Oversteer is certainly available if grip is reduced ie its wet, simply because you have less grip you don't get to the point of lifting an inside front on corner entry, so you can apply some trail-braking or a simple lift will do the trick when timed right.

Hmmm... I understand your point, and i was kind of on the same track referring to "you can't have it all for £7000". If i was comparing my friends EVO FQ 360, things would be different! Remember though, it's not the dog in the fight, it's the fight in the dog, i have got used to, or adapted to the MJ speed and suspension now, i don't even notice the body roll anymore.

Just off subject for a minute, i think I've found a rival for the 100hp, well it's more of an Abarth rival with it's turbo etc. New Colt Ralliart, 1.5 litre, 0-60 7.4 secs, 131 MPH etc looks good.
