VVT

a update for those with the newer 1.2 or the 1.4 with the VVT 8v set up.....

there is a bit more to the job..........

unplug the solonoid valve for the VVT (near dipstick)

once you have the ECU bracket removed you need to remove the cam sensor by removing the plug and the the 10mm headed bolt and pull it out...

you need two additional bits from the cam locking kit.. the extra cam sprocket locking tool and the cam cover aligning plate....

lock out the crank and cam as the first page,,, and check the top slot is not 180 degrees out

The cam sprocket fixing bolt is under a cover cap which is removed by a T55 bit (large rag to catch the leaking oil is needed) then use the same T55 and use a 24mm spanner as the last page to loosen the sprocket then refit the cam shaft end locking tool to hold the cam in place

you need to remove the black metal heat shield by loosening the cat converter heat shield and removing the 2x 10 mm heading bolts....

with the pulley loose (this rotates all the way round unlike the keyed none vvt type) refit the new belt (then fully tension the tensioner..)

fit the sprocket locking tool

and remove the cam locking tool then tighten the cam bolt to 18-22NM +55 degrees ensure you have a QUALITY T55 bit the sprocket locking tool holds the thing in place as you do it .... once tight refit cam shaft end locking plate and check the top is still in time

if happy refit the cam bolt cover cap (25nm) and remove all locking tools....

get a spanner on the crank shaft end sprocket bolt and cycle the engine two full revolutions and then holding tension release from full tension so the tension indicator sits dead in the middle of its fork and tighten as per last page spin engine 2 more turns then refit locking tools if happy begin to put back together...

put back most parts when you come to refit the rocker cover you need the special aligning tool for the cover (see guide linked to where to apply instant gasket to new gasket, fit the aligning tool using 1 nut and 3 bolts (one might be hard to locate so slowly and evenly tighten the rocker top till the last bolt fits then evenly tighten all to 10nm then remove aligning plate and refit cam sensor ....... (it fits where the cam sensor goes and mounts to the ecu bracket holes with suitable bolts / nut
