Right I now no longer have any idea why my car won't just start like a modern car should you have to crank it for 5-10s before it will go puff of smoke only from cold tho what I have done so far
New glow plugs twice
New relay
New battery
Cleaned the egr
Turn everything off and press the clutch and heat the plugs 3 times yes this does improve the time it takes to start but I want to solve the problem.
Been to the main dealer and was told it was a new relay so did that no difference returned that and they are going to do another test on it
Is there anyone who has or has had a 1.9 multijet and fixed the issue
Its done 79,000 miles had the cambelt and water pump and a full service done in the last 3000 miles needed doing but hoped it may solve the issue
Can't keep putting. Money into it and not sorting the problem
There must be someone who has fixed this before I'm not the only one for sure :bang:

1.9 multijet sporting 130 on a 56 plate 79,000 miles

Yep if its been stood for more then 3 hours or first thing in the morning car runs fantastic and only started doing it about 2 weeks after I got it for no reason we are now 5 months later and still can't find a cure

Wen i got my gp it was the same..i changed relay n tested al plugs but they wer fine..mine kept bringing the fault up every time i went to start "glow plugs" turned out it was the main fuse coming of the battery.if u trace the wire back from the relay u shud find it..hope this helps

I did test the red wire which runs from battery to the relay and it does seem on but going to change it anyway today and also going to do fuel filter but I'm not expecting any change

OK so went back to fiat for the final time today took back the relay after them trying to fob me off saying that once its fitted no return I'm sorry I asked before I got it ifs returnable so after seeing manger got my money back and they are less then useless book it in and we will have a look at it they said they have already tested it and oh it maybe the glow plugs he says no I'm not putting another set in its already had 2 sets in 4 months and the last being about 2 weeks ago and then walks off so great help they were  so it anyone knows some one who can fix this or a goood independent garage in the south west who does no anything about fiats not just someone who is going to keep fobbing me off which s**t I already know and have tried main dealer useless:mad:

No return on electrical items fitted (independent garage is under same rules) and no warranty on warranty parts.

If you have changed glow plus/relay and no difference the fault is elsewhere. It only happens when cold so have you monitored the air/coolant sensors, error codes? it's no good just guessing and chucking parts at the car. You need someone who can accurately diagnose this problem and be aware that time is needed for this to be carried out.

My advice is going to a trusted dealer and explain what you have already done/not done. Be firm and say you only want a hours diagnostic done as money is tight, leave the car overnight and let them test it in the morning. Ask to see results/parameters and work with them by giving as much information as you can, the key to all good diagnosis.

That's fair enough but asked and was told I could so not like the relays are cheap 116.33 so not point keeping it if its not working any ideas of any good fiat garage that are not dealer related would be great ordered a new cold start sensor and filter and injector cleaner going to get a tank for sell + fuel hopefully give the system a good clean and hoping this will improve it then will have to look further if not

Hi, sorry to jump on your thread, just wondered if you had any joy sorting your car? I'm having exactly the same issue :-( been in and out of the garage but just can't seem to get to the bottom of it. Has had new relay, battery, valve clean, injectors tested- all fine. Spent too much on this already. Same car- 1.9 multijet sporting 07 plate just done 50 000. My old diesel 306 started better than this!
Cheers

Oh whoops sorry new to this just noticed your last post is only 3 hours old not from January! I should really look in the right place! So of course don't expect you to have had any joy yet.....
Best of luck with yours...

Lol I'm sick to death with it now just order a new fuel filter cold start sensor and injector cleaner will update on Thursday but this is as far as I can afford to go now if any one does get a result' be sure to post about it as the dealer is not helping

Ive had injectors all cleaned- no difference :-(
Have been reading a little about this cold start sensor thing- let me know how u get on, would be awesome if that solves it- I'm not feeling too positive though as all other avenues seem to have come to nothing....
Fingers crossed though!

Hi guys,

Any luck with your issues ? I have had the same issue with my gp, what i have found tho is fitting Bosch Glow plugs should solve the problem, reason being their heat-up time is half of the standard units, so I have bought some and will fit them this weekend, hopefully this will sort the issue.

Did you solve the problem with Bosch? I have got some air mass cleaner gonna give that a go tomorrow

Mine had a major starting issue just after i got it, sounds very similar to yours. I took it into the garage and they diagnosed it as a faulty crank shaft sensor.
This wasnt a cheap job to have fixed but it did resolve my problem. Cambelt and pully off and crankshaft sensor replaced, while it was in and parts were off, had the cambelt and water pumped changed too to make things simpler later on.

Maybe worth an ask?

Yeah I was thinking along the lines of that being the next thing. Cant really afford to do a big job like that atm tho if it's not that if it's going to cost more then 150 and only had the cambelt and water pump done 5000 miles ago but may call around to see if I can get some prices

I'm having the same problems starts fine once been running and runs faultlessly apart from cold starting . Can anyone give me and idea of this crank sensor change ? As I have changed glow plugs already

Thanks liam

Still having issues here too- kind of just resigned myself to thinking its always gonna be like it. Garage want to have one last try at solving it as its in for MOT soon so will mention the crank shaft sensor thing- see what happens! Thanks for the advice
