Well, after a good few hours the forum is now upgraded to the latest and greatest version of vBulletin. There is actually a huge list of new stuff, but it will be much more fun if you find it yourselves

I'd been reading about the Fiat Freakout show for a while now, and whilst I would be in the US at that time, I really didn't feel like going on my own so had given up on the idea.

The events map has been upgraded to v3 of the Google Maps API, which means I've now got the tools to code in geocoding (or I should say, I already did)

What does this mean?

Well now, when adding an event you don't need to scroll around the map for ages looking for the location - just fill...

Oh no, I've tweaked and bit here and coded...

 

Upgraded the blogs to the latest version - now includes global categories (which we will use for build threads) and also, "post to blog" - which allows you to move your posts directly into the blog system

Over the next few weeks, we'll be working to further integrate the blogs into the forum...

The ratings systems across the forum have now been combined into one simple system.

The simplest way to use it is, after you have purchased or sold an item via the classifieds, browse back to the ad (in the classifieds system) and click the...

 

Simple change, but now instead of it being the first photo of a post which is chosen as the "MM Thread Thumbnail" - a random photo is picked.

Helps to keep things a bit more fresh

The default display routine of the MM bar has now changed.

By default, it will now show MM threads which are unread, followed by a few random ones to fill the rest of the bar up.

You can change this in the user control panel -> User Options to be either that, Latest Only (regardless of whether...

 

Group Buys have been added to the right hand bar.

Now any specific to your model (done by prefixing) will show up automatically. Down point is if the GB is for multiple models, there is no way to tag it with multiple prefixes.

Working on a way around this

 

Spent a rather enjoyable day (yeah right) going through Wikipedia getting a list of all FIATs made since WW2.

Then spent an even more enjoyable time getting a thumbnail of each of them and adding them to the classifieds as a category each (Cars, Parts and Parts Wanted) - so now when it comes to...

 

My goodness these few days have been busy for me

I'd like to introduce the newest FF feature - drum roll ...... a new "Members Motors" bar which appears at the top of each models forum and lists the latest threads for the specific model (with thumbnails!)

No longer do you have to flick over...

 

The right hand bar has now been polished up a fair bit and now uses the system "thread read" markers to display listings.

What does this mean?

Simply - if you havent' looked at a classified ad, then it will stay bolded until you do (it used to only bold all ads placed within the last 24 hours)...

 

From now on, it is a requirement that all adverts posted to the classifieds (be they for sale or wanted ads) have the following fields entered:

Location
Phone Number
Postcode

This is to help not only with usefulness of the ads, but also as a (basic) security measure.

For as long as I can remember, we had a lock on gallery images so that once they'd been uploaded, they couldn't be removed.

This was done, so we weren't left with loads of little red X's on the forum as people deleted linked images.

Of course the downside to all this was, images that hadn't...

 

I couldn't think of a better title hehe ...
