Back in the late eighties a ‘mate’ once said, of my 141 4x4, that’s not so clever, my escort could cope with that…indeed it did, got over the hump, down the wet grass slope and, failed to slow down and tail fished on, hit another hump and span it’s wheels…the spraying oil and rattling engine predicted doomAnything can go off road, though some have more of a job getting back on again![]()
I think being very small, and infinitely easy to work on is a deciding factor, my niece will be 17 next year, my brother already has quite a big fleet with vans trucks sports cars and camper vans so the smallness of the panda means it won’t take up much space in his workshop.Fiats be cheap, that's why I like them.
I've been wondering if they go off road myself...![]()
As an youngster I used to put Dunlop Town and Country tyres on and any lanes that said unsuitable for motor vehicles was a challenge that had to be taken, never needed towing outBack in the late eighties a ‘mate’ once said, of my 141 4x4, that’s not so clever, my escort could cope with that…indeed it did, got over the hump, down the wet grass slope and, failed to slow down and tail fished on, hit another hump and span it’s wheels…the spraying oil and rattling engine predicted doom

The car is also yellow so given he owns a body shop he has already threatened to paint the door red, inbetweeners style
People bleet on about how good the panda 4x4 is off road but all I ever see is people driving them down a track that any 2wd would conquer. Usually a grassy field or a gravel track. Having pulled my wife’s “SUV” out of a snow drift armed only with a vw golf on summer tires and a blanket I am sure I would have no trouble making any panda perform well off road be it 2 or 4wdAnything can go off road, though some have more of a job getting back on again![]()
She already had a way of saving herself a fortune…Ah yes, she should start learning how to fix cars, it'll save her a small fortune!
That goes for most Range Rovers as well! The Panda 4x4 is certainly a capable little vehicle but I think that the 4x4 bit is overrated, ground clearance and carefull driving are probably more important.People bleet on about how good the panda 4x4 is off road but all I ever see is people driving them down a track that any 2wd would conquer. Having seen the amount of holiday maker Range Rovers stuck in the harbour with an incoming tide when trying to launch their flashy power boats, against local advice????That goes for most Range Rovers as well! Probably on low profile road tires.Having seen the amount of holiday maker Range Rovers stuck in the harbour with an incoming tide when trying to launch their flashy power boats, against local advice????
A good 4x4 helps , but it is still no good when a stupid driver floors the throttle and digs the vehicle into the sand up to the axles.![]()

Briings back the memory back of1968 when I lived at Ogmore by Sea. Bristol channel and the potential for 50ft tides. Idiots decide to tow a boat on a trailer onto the beach at low tide, with a Ford Zephyr. Just next to the Ogmore river, a notorious place for tidal currents and to those that know, bad undertow and soft sand. No matter they are stuck fast, to the sound of a trupmet fanfare the Police arrive in their shiny new long wheelbase Land Rover station wagon. With similarly predictable results. Then along comes farmer LLewellyn on his Massey Fergy.... with predicatble results bearing in mind the Landy was totally stuck and the tie was already to the stuck vehicles. And the tide he was a coming in. And cover them all up he did. So funny watching it go out the following morning. The water level in the Landy stayed at full tide long after the sea had gone out. Road cones were bobbing up and down in the back for ages. A Scammel 6x6 was duly summoned and half a mile of cable to pull them all out. I would love to have been a fly on the wall of Mr Policeman's bosses office. There are definitely limits. Just goes to prove, those Land Rovers, they aint no Panda. Back in those pre Panda days I suppose it was the best of a bad bunch LOLProbably on low profile road tires.
Would that have been a Mk4 Ford Zephyr? Around 1974 I had a Mk4 V6 on 6.70 x 13 cross ply tyres, it used to spend most of it's life sideways going around bends, the youngsters of today think they invented drifting.Briings back the memory back of1968 when I lived at Ogmore by Sea.
