Just had fun today trying unsuccessfully trying to free of a very seized piston in a sort of "winged wheel engine" followed up by a ride around on a running one in a ladies push bike. They are capable of around 20mph but with early 1950s worn stirrup brakes made for an interesting ride.:)
I can't even remember the last time I saw a 'Winged Wheel Engine'. Even new stirrup brakes without the extra horsepower are dicey.

The brakes on this are about the best thing on it.

In a brazen fit of stupidity, I bought two.

You have to have more than one for breeding purposes, my friend has 7 of these engines now. The bigger ones are 32cc, still no wheelies though.:)

I was in the right place at the right time and got the yellow 1977 4600 US spec model and a black 1973 3800 world model for $100 each. If I wanted to, I could get close to $3K for the pair now. 49cc, 0.8hp, 18mph tops, if you are lucky. 24mph if you help. Slow, stinky, not all that comfortable, but a hoot to ride.

In the early 70s one of my neighbours gave me a French version of something like that where it grinds the front tyre away to give drive, sadly like all my old vehicles long gone.:)

Exactly what this Phench Phart is. Also known as Velosolex. The 4600 was built for the US market with brake lights, always on headlight, and the world's suckiest horn.

Yes Velosolex seems to ring a bell although must confess it didn't look as "sunny" as your model with that paint scheme.:)
Saying about poor horn reminded me of a late 70s Honda CR125 aircooled works motorcross bike (maybe known as an Elsinore?) I acquired and decided to get Moted to use on the road, bit silly as a total animal, being works tuned if revs dropped off the power band you needed to drop 3 gears at least to pick up speed again which usually involved front wheel air born even with me at 15 stone(210lbs) at the time in every gear.
However at the time it was possible to have a "daytime" Mot with speedo, horn bulb type (off kids bike) and a brake light which involved a switch a bit of wire and a rechargeable 9vt battery stuffed in the lamp unit along with a 6volt bulb, loosely compliant.
Soon lost interest in it and advertised for sale, I was out at the time and a brother in law started it for a young lad who bought it, never heard how he got on as he was a learner and in those days a 125cc complied with the law at the time, he would have been a "quick" learner and I hope he was a quick learner also.;)

That sunny yellow paint is typical 70's French. If you look at it funny, it just sort of drops off. The paint was applied to bare metal.
My 3800 is black, just like every 3800 made.

Ya know, there are high mileage tours on those stinky things in France and I do know of one or two in the UK. I've ridden a bicycle 300 miles in a day. 10 miles on a stinker is pushing it.
There is also a big following in NYC. Bastille Day brings out every Velosolex, 2CV, and, Dauphine hiding in that town.

The winged wheel type are better in so much as you are ahead of the stinker with it being in the back wheel.
Mind you I used to be foreman of a Dealership that amongst others sold Wartburg Knight and Tourist (estate version)3 cyl. two stroke cars, pre mix type in the 70s, now they did smoke like a WW1 battleship avoiding the enemy.:)

Noop. We went to Manchester. Very high speed on the way up in places, across back roads. Overtkes done fast and safe. Pottering round visitng my auntie in hospital and running round Manchester. Very steady on the way back below the limit most of the time but just keeping pace with teh main road traffic. 50.1mpg over the 505miles. Avg speed 46mph. Car was laden to the roof too on the way back as well. That will do nicely. Just one burst of speed up a big hill on the A6 to keep the BMW bumper sniffer back. LOL. That made him think.

Finalised the insurance on the way up in the car. All three covered for £940 which by the sounds of it isnt too bad. Cornhill Insurance seem friendly and esy to deal with.

Had a random creak at the rear of the car for some time.

Maybe a dry bush maybe something else...only time it did it was over large speed bumps.

Not that annoying but now the wheel bearing is sorted it's more obvious...

Except actually none of the above, few nights ago checking the boot lid was locked and "Creak"...today going over a speed bump with the seats down and 2 met 2 and made 4.

Lubricated the lock...and it's gone.
