What's made you smile today?

I was able to get out of the house for a couple of hours today and go to one of Owen's hockey games. The kids played hard, keeping the opposing team scoreless until the 3rd period. Owen scored a goal that was just short of amazing. He lifted his shot from corner of the blue line and the boards. The puck did a little hop over the defensmans' stick and into the net.

Alas, it was for nought. The opposing team scored four goals in the 3rd period, three in the last five minutes. The final goal was at the buzzer. :(

Although the kids lost, again, it was nice to get out to see and talk to people.

The 500L, who said cars are getting bigger??

Just as well all the roads and parking spaces have increased in size too...

It always makes me laugh..."if you have kids you need a medium/large SUV".

In a standard size parking space if you park next to another medium/large SUV your child will be unable to open the door without creasing the other car.

Our impractical small car...with it's impractically small back doors that aren't seemingly designed to allow a 25 stone man access to the back seat... Well they can be opened fully without contacting small/medium car in a normal space and wide enough to get in even if the person next to you has brought something that falls into "industrial strength ego reinforcement".

My smile for the day, found a hot wheels boneshaker monster truck...in a toyshop. Swear someone goes in and takes anything vaguely resellable to put on eBay. So if I'd bought the one he got on eBay 15 quid + postage...4.99 RRP. Lads very happy to finally have one...

I parked next to a new 500L on Friday in my wife’s mini countryman and was surprised to see the the 500L was actually bigger in height and length than her countryman… and people whine the mini isn’t “mini” anymore. The 500L literally has nothing in common with it’s historic namesake not even the looks or styling

Noop the Panda TA 4x4. I just delivered some pottery that Mrs sold on eBay for my Uncle. 85 mile trip on appalling roads. As usual he handled the whole thing in style. I love this car. Its quite quick enough, amazingly comfortable and a real pleasure to drive. even on muddy and wet winter roads. Its as good as anything else I have ever driven and thats before you conisder what its capable of over and above road use.

Just delivered the Panda to the garage at the bottom of the road, for an MOT. Whilst sitting in the car, waiting for them to open, a BMW X6 arrived. That's the enormous SUV coupe thing, that looks like it has been sat on. Little else shouts ego as loudly, as even the over-large pickups are more subtle. Driver is sporting dark sunglasses, and a white baseball cap. There's a profile there, in everyone's heads.
There were two spaces beside me, and three more along the other side of the building. Struggling with the choice, he sat, blocking the road into the business park, while the second brain cell woke up to join the first. He then swung it forwards into the space next to mine, or at least mostly. Then comes a reverse and reposition, without thinking there might be passing traffic behind. Thankfully, they avoided him.
When the doors to the garage were unlocked, he was in like a shot, "must get in front" syndrome operating even when out of the car. So I'm third in the queue, no pressure. BMW is in for MOT and a full service. He's just about to leave, and decides to ask when it will be ready. MOT, full service, around 10am. That's 2 hours, seems good to me. BMW man looked pained, and wandered out mumbling. Receptionist looked puzzled, and with the look of someone who'd seen it before.
My turn. "Panda for an MOT. Is it ready yet?" Cheered them all up a bit. No hurries, I'll be back at teatime. Soon, I have to choose one of the other vehicles in the fleet, for a 40 mile journey to Chippenham. Oh, the pressure of having to choose.

For some reason I have an image of a car on an unmatched set of 4 of the cheapest tyres money can buy that never had more than a tenner of fuel in the tank. Also an owner who for reasons unknown just cannot leave his nose alone and disappears to the toilet quite regularly.

I also predict at least 3 advisories for wear items that he will decline to fix...

Reminds me of the aging mercedes CLS I saw a couple of years back on a brand new set, all round, of some completely unknown Chinese brand of tires. Given these cars have a penchant for error codes and the electronics monitoring everything down to the number of times the interior light bulb has blown, I can only imagine the various computers in the car are probably screaming with errors that need clearing.
The picture you paint of the X6 driver is likely a very fair description 🤣

Went for a run today...and it was easier.

Should say start of the month we had a health monitor thingy in work, did it told me lots of things I already knew. I.e. I'm a bit fat..and my blood pressure was significantly above ideal.

Basically need to lose a stone and half to have a healthy BMI.

Unlike most fat people I've got no issue with exercise (run 10k at least once a week and do other exercise as well) it's just that I have terrible eating habits due to the presence of sweets and crisps around a 5 year old and a love of crap food.

Anywho actually decided to be good...and yeah lost half a stone in a month or so and haven't given up either beer or pizza or done much more exercise just not eating the really really stupid things. So I'm happy with that..

Although at some point will need to get an actual blood pressure reading done at the doctors...

When I was at school we were poor and undernourished and I can remember a school sports day coming last in a 440yard race by about half the track, then nightclubs and smoking until about 20 years old, then took up rowing which was a shock to my system and when we were not doing 10 mile head races (mouth of the rivers etc.) we would run for miles, do circuit training and weight lifting, followed up by a social side with subsidised bar involving many pints a bit like a rugby club so I was well fit then, stopped training around 30 years old and around 10.5-11 stone, did go up to 16 at one time now around 13.5 but at 70 years old my BMI is still better than both my younger sisters.
Just looked out kitchen and there was a owl on top of my 20 foot Christmas tree just as the sun is going down. Have heard it a few times but never seen it.:)

You mean you’ve been skipping the work from home, lunch time packet of custard creams ?

Some say step 1 of not being a fat bastard is not eating like a fat bastard...

Those people would be correct...and 14 stone was a bit much 🤣
Now if you were 6 foot 10inches they would say you were underweight;).
Up until I was in my fifties I could do several press up and claps easily even when much heavier, the other day with my daughters I could not even do one normal press up:( Now I know I am old!!!

I have never been a bronzed Adonis of a man but I do like to be able to keep up with my lad and walk all day without thinking about it... possibly while carrying said lad.

It was just one of those things where either I do something now..or I'll have a much bigger job of it later a few years down the line.

When my boy was invalided out of the Marines he put on quite a bit of weight due, no doubt, to the less active lifestyle? Anyway he started being a bit concerned about it and Allen Carr's book on loosing weight was recommended to him. It worked and he's been fine ever since - He's a big strapping lad but gentle with it. A number of years ago I was up around the 14 stones, heaviest I've ever been, and getting worried about it. He told me, Dad, just remember what Allen Carr says "Make hunger your friend" and just eat less. You have to put "stuff" in your mouth to get fat! I've remembered it ever since and weigh myself every morning. I'm about 5ft 8ins tall and try to hover around the 11.5 to 12 stone mark. If I seem to be creeping up towards the 12 stones I just eat less that day. Works fine for me. I also take quite long walks, around an hour to an hour and a half on average which probably helps.

To be fair I'm probably similar to your son pre-child I ran 3x a week and did downhill mountain biking and other ways of injuring yourself.

I've cut most of that back but ate the same...which was fine when he was young and I pushed pram miles every day but not so much now.

I'm aiming to get back down to 12 stone which, at one point I was 11.5 but I was running a 30km a week then...

I hover just under 15st but I am 6’ 3” which puts me in the “needs to loose a stone” area but like Steve I do my share of regular exercise *when I can** unfortunately by back is buggered so I am limited at times. That being said, the unhealthy eating is usually in place of heathy choices rather than some people who eat 3 cooked meals a day and then snack in between. To me biscuits count as a meal….

I’ve done it for years and I know it’s not great, I don’t see that changing any time soon. I will probably skip breakfast and have some sort of normal ish meal in the evening, if I am really busy I won’t eat.

I always preferred a good breakfast, a big evening meal is hard to work off.
Not recommended, but when I stopped rowing and got married the first time my weight went up from 10.5 to 12 stone which I put down to contented living, however when she left 18 months later and took me for half the house, got the Alfa and the Fiat 500, I lost a stone in one month so I wouldn't recommend that weight loss regime.:(

Been there done that, but got to take solice in the fact that her half of the house would be paying for her ridiculous credit card debt which in divorcing her was no longer my problem.

When I was younger I was about 11st which given my height was very skinny. My boy seems to be taking after me, not even 2 yet but already 90cm and towering over 3 year olds.

I can contest however that your weightloss plan does indeed work.
