Stick with your dot 4, see how it feels
oh no, not camden high street! PAAAAINFULOh I'm sorry that's a horrible feeling. We've all been there if that helps at all. I once had to get a couple of crusties to push me in my 2CV across Camden High Street with a whole crowd pointing and laughing
Master cylinder can suck air in past the seals when faulty, so if you're reasonably confident you got all the air out when bleeding, a new master is what I'd do next.
This time, you say even engine off it wasn't going into gear, is that right?
Do you have the car home now? Is
it was infront of a super rough pub too, and ppl were drinking outside.Yeah they never choose a quiet corner to conk out do they![]()
Turns out I'm wonder woman, as I was already planning to do this!Depends how brave you're feeling...
As you have the new pipe with half a connector left over from the slave cylinder you've already fitted...
And now you have another length of new pipe with the other half a connector on the new master...
This would be an opportunity to replace the old pipe from the slave and have a complete new hydraulic system.
Not critical, but tempting![]()
omg this is doing my head in so much. There are literally NO videos atall that show how to do it properly. From start to finish. The one vid has the bloke showing where to take it off, but not when he removes it, or connects it, I have no idea atall where the long bit of metal goes, or what its attached to.Turns out I'm wonder woman, as I was already planning to do this!
Im soooooo looking forward to removing the battery again! Seriously. Even more than the tooth extraction I need, as I don't have 2 million quid for a root canal.
Best. Day. Ever.![]()
thankyou so much. I tried it with it on, and it still fell out.I've never touched the connector, sorry, I can't help much
I'm looking on the yootoob to see what I can find.
@DaveMcT have you had one of these clutch qd connectors apart, please?
Should this nylon collar not be on the male part?

They can be safely mixed with no issues. Just don't use DOT5, which is completely different and totally incompatible.I would mix, personally.
Who knows if it's DOT3 or DOT4 in there.
I've certainly added DOT4 to an unknown quantity before and nothing terrible happened.
We had lots of white sludge and I am pretty sure the cause was the two grades of fluid. I asked my garage man and he seemed to think contamination inside the new cyclinders
omg ure amazing, tysm. idk it seems like one bits too small? but on the pic in that thread they have that cream plastic bit on it.Well, looks dry at least.
Here's someone else had the same issue trying to attach the two halves of a new QD connector:
@John202020 suggested quite some force is needed to force the two together :/![]()
Disconnection of hydraulic pipe to clutch | FIAT 500 (2007+)
There is a chunky "quick" connector in the solid pipe to the slave cylinder on the clutch. It's located near the passenger wheelarch. For some reason the casing has cracked rendering theclutch inoperative and it seems I will need to replace the second part of the pipe onto which this coupling...www.fiatforum.com
Oooh ty, good to know when I need to change it too. They can be safely mixed with no issues. Just don't use DOT5, which is completely different and totally incompatible.
Dot 4 has a higher boiling point (which may be relevant in high performance brake applications), but it also absorbs water more readily than Dot 3 and should be changed more frequently.
For the clutch application, where temperature isn't an issue at all, I'd use Dot3 in preference, simply because it will absorb less moisture.
But in practice you can just use whatever you have available. I'd recommend changing it every two years regardless; easy enough without dismantling once you've done it a few times. There isn't a lot of fluid volume in the system and the clutch gets used far more frequently than the brakes.
